Seizure Warning...

well, ya i'm still a complete newb at the site so excuse me if this topic was brought up before.

this is just my warning to amv editors. (i.e.just about everonye here)
in the past, i've downloaded loads of great amv's and seens many with a great adreniline rush and flashy effects.
my worry is that what if a viewer could potentially get a seizure from the amv?
--as a result they sue the editor for their lack of some sort of warning.
"fast high quality effects and editing may cause seizures, do not sit too close tot he screen and keep your room well lit"
obviously any common primate will know to do this but the bitter viewer's lawyer will care less if it wasn't printed in the description.
i've actually heard of something like this happening..--ya i know, it's a weak rumor but...>.>

this is pretty much a passing thought but i'd feel like an ass if something like this really happened and i didn't open my mouth.

i think that we are more likely to get sued by the anime/music industry than people having actual seizures....

Seriously, my late uncle lived with an epiliptic seizure most of his life before dying. I never had a chance to meet him, but his condition was sad. So I understand where you're coming with this.

But I still highly doubt a single editor can be blamed for someone staying up til 3AM watching Naruto's Technique Beat. Personal responsibility should come into play in this field. It will raise awareness, albeit, but not federal cases.

If anything, it'll bring something up with the org in the whole.

Yeah, I've thought about this before too. Just now, I'm gonna send one to a convention... which is where I think we should be most worried [someone unfamiliar with AMVs could get caught off guard]

However, when put into perspective-- you have to think of the type of people your audience consists of. If they watch anime whatsoever, they should know that anime has the potential to be flashy. I don't have any epileptic friends, but I would assume someone prone to seizures would stay away from this area.

Although, if there was something...I don't know...like a standard warning/rating system, I would be all for it.
...not so much for the warning itself, but it's like the 18A warning... it tells you which ones are good...

Just need to flash between red, blue, and yellow every 2-3 frames to get optimum seizure inducement.

As for videos causing seizures, the only video that has ever given me any trouble is Delerium by Anamorphic Productions...the fact that she wove frames from two different shows together and put flashes on the beats of the Sandstorm part gives me a migraine nearly every time I watch unless I close my eyes for the 'bad' parts. And I still watch it. :O

Between 5 and 30 flashes per second are usually needed to trigger an epileptic attack in someone so inclined. And they have to be timed fairly strictly usually. And they have to happen more than a one or two flashes usually. Few videos, even the really shiny gee whiz effects ones, will flash more that 5 times a second. If someone sat down to design a video that can cause epileptic attacks it's certainly possible to do it but it's unlikely to happen by accident.

OTOH pokemon did prove it can happen by accident.

Then again, in the 60 years TV has been a common household object a single pokemon episode is the only time I've ever heard of TV shows causing widescale attacks by accident. Considering the time frame, further proof that it's rare this would happen without it being intended to happen.

I´ve made an amv with 5frames flashy to every single beat and they are tons.

If someone gets epileptic attack and is an epileptic:
"You should know better. Why you´re still watching such vids?"

If someone gets epileptic attack and doesn´t know that he is an epileptic:
"Hey, now you know! And please visit a doctor =/ "

That´s all want to say.
