Goldstein, Paul. "Copyright's Highway: From Gutenberg to the Celestial Jutebox". Standford, CA: Standford University Press, 2003.

This will give you a good foundation and case law.

But the real question is .... Why are you attempting to draw attention to our hobby like this? Please, for the love of god, don't mention AMVs or the site!

I'm not going to mention AMVs or this site. I'm just going to mention music videos in general.

As for why I'm doing this, it's something that's been bugging me for quite a while and I think copyright holders (especially the music ones) shouldn't go crazy about them.

Basically, I don't want another incident like the Wind-Up one to occur again.

I recommend this book as reading material. Its pretty interesting, and quite relevant.

I know people who have tried to doing this kind of thing many times before...maybe it's just our sucky officials we have down here, or no body is giving a damn.

The Veni, Vidi, Vids! Vidding (videos made using LA shows, but they also feature AMVs) blog has recurring posts about 'meta', of which articles on copyright law that affect amvs are featured.

Here's the one from May 3rd, linking 19 articles related to copyright and digital media.

this is a nice idea but somehow i dont think your senator will do much about it since not too many people are talking about it, if everyone on the org sent mail to senators then we would probably see a response but the issue of copyright laws is just not a very big one at the moment and would probably just be ignored

Here's something I thought I'd add. Gametrailers has their own user community that uploads GMVs and such on there. More importantly, the genres listed there are anime, games, music videos, etc.

Why would they care?

You have to spin it so that they, the elected officials, see something in it for them.

Why would anyone want to take on the RIIA if there's not something in it for them?

What can you offer the elected official that would counter the offer of money that the RIIA can put into their, (the elected official's), campaign funds?

I like AMVs. Don't get me wrong. I think that AMVs help sell more songs and anime than they costs the RIIA for people who rip the music from the AMV rather than paying for the song. Of course I edit all of the songs used in my own AMVs so... maybe there's a clue?

If I'm some fat cat politician, what good reason can you offer me to start something that would anger the RIIA?

Most elected representatives don't read the bills they vote on. What makes you think they read letters from random constitutes?
