If you care about anything else pertaining to Anime though, AX is the place to be. The industry folk often use the convention to make most of their big announcements too. It's a lot more organized and polished, which can be a benefit or a negative depending on how you look at it.
I have to somewhat disagree with your statement there. AWA is a full size anime convention (not just AMVs) It has a pretty big dealer room and cosplay, panels, guests and everything else you expect at a anime con. Yes, AX has bigger guests and all, but there are advantages to a smaller con vs the big ones... I suggest going to small, medium and large sized anime cons and seeing yourself the similarities and differences before passing evaluation.
More organized and polished?? Hmmm... really? Have you been to Otakon or any other con... AX is reasonably organized but I've seen better organized anime cons as well...
And Yes, I've been to quite a few anime cons...
