One thing I can not stress enough about NYC:
Do not...
*I repeat*
Do NOT...
eat at the TGI Friday's in Times Square.
Seriously, you don't want to go there. You might think, "Oh, Friday's, sure bet for a good meal!" But _that particular Friday's_ is not worth your time.
Trust me.

hehe, I can vouch for that. On a school trip in 9th grade, my english class went in to the city to see a play. We we're allowed to go out on our own for lunch but had to be at the theater in an hour, so there wasn't enough time to go and eat at places I normally went to, so we just decided to eat some crap around the area that was relativly cheap and ended up in that Fridays.jbone wrote:One thing I can not stress enough about NYC:

Long story short, poor Rob missed the first act because he was on the shitter the whole time.

Are you down with the sound of the Devil's town?

Still debating. It's only a 3-4 hour drive (probably more like 6-7 hours since I'd drive up Friday late afternoon), but I've never driven into NYC before...I'll almost certainly get lost once I hit the city, and then there's the issue of parking in Times Square. That, and I don't feel like paying for a Times Square hotel room.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

However, do not forget the all-important Rule #1: NEVER DRIVE IN NYC.
Seriously.
Take the train in.
And as for a room...find someone to bum something from.

Note to all those fat white bad acne anime boys. You might see a bum and start laughing in NYC they are part of the community it wont be a city without bums so dont fuck with them they will beat you down like they have nothing to live for they dont care if they go to jail. And if you go to queens do not i repeat do not go to roosevelt ave. at night it is full of spics (its not racist because im hispanic) if they see you they will mug you or kill you. And if you are looking for anime you might find something on main street flushing place is filled with asians but that still dosnt mean they wont kick your fat white bad acne cheeto eating ass.
And if i see you you better just hand over your wallet or suffer and even worser fate.
note to all hot anime loving girls Look for me in brodway city arcade 8)

New York is not that scary!!!! Really, everyone should visit whether or not they go to AXNY or a con. It's such a wonderful and unique city. And it you use *common sense* you will probably never have a problem. (Especially in the "touristy" places). NYC is a lot less dangerous than some other cities in the US.
And I completely agree about TGIFridays. Yuk. (I don't think there is a good place to eat in Times square that is not either absurdely expensive or disgusting....)
(I submitted this post a few minutes ago, and it wouldn't post, so I apologize if two of them show up

There are tons of places to buy anime, legitimate or not. Wander around some parts of Chinatown and you'll be practically accosted with anime.

...I should be there.
I live about 45 minutes away, and I've got friends with a hotel room (it's really a pain in the ass to go back and forth each night), so why not? I also sent two vids into the contest. One was my ill-received Otakon vid, and the other is my DDR vid, so I certainly don't expect much, but I'd like to be able to tell my parents that my work's been shown in NY. And in Time's Square, as well...
I do find it interesting that the people who are saying that NY isn't so bad are all having a tough time forming complete sentences and not saying the word "mug."
Personally, I don't like NY, but I don't like cities. But... it's like any city. You act smart you'll be okay. You act stupid, you won't be okay. Just don't act like an ass and you won't get mugged.
Whoops!
