Gasaraki vs. Eva? which the better anime?

Post by projekt_navi » Mon Jul 15, 2002 2:18 pm

***Don't read this unless you've seen both anime***

I dunno if anyone has actually seen Gasaraki (or at least finished it) ... Gasaraki was a very complex anime ... very complicated ... yet anime fans discredited because it was an Eva clone ...

Gasaraki was very confusing ... and some people may actually have called it " boring " just because it focused mainly on the plot rather than the action. Not all eva fans got into gasaraki though .. but still .. at least some would agree Gasaraki had a very unique plot.

I know ... that at least some of you watched Evangelion and finished it through ... Evangelion was more towards to the action-type ... yet the story held itself through ... angel comes , eva kills it , the end ... but the anime does this in a unique yet good way to show at least some plot coming along ...

Evangelion wasn't much of an anime that would explain everything ... it was pretty confusing in the end ... even the movie made more questions as the story went through ... why is it that the creator just simply left the anime from there ... and left the series ...

Gasaraki and Evangelion have alot of things simple ... it is said that Yushiro (Gasaraki) was animated as the male-clone of Rei (Eva). Also the plot revolved around robots.

For the animation department ... it seems that the beginning episodes of Evangelion were not as detailed as the future episodes of the series ... while Gasaraki's animation seemed more detailed and brighter than that of Eva's ...

Oh yea ... both anime were created by Gainax -_-

Now that I've explained what I think of both anime ... which anime do you think is better ... by comparison anyway ...

Well I've watched both series though, and Gasaraki starts out looking like it was trying to cash in on the popularity of Eva. I personally didn't enjoy Gasaraki as much as I did Eva, but I had a bit of difficulty following the plot of the series. I felt a deep empathic link with the characters of Eva, and I understand why they reacted to things as they did. I didn't develop much of an attachment to the respective characters in Gasaraki.

Also I'm pretty sure that Gainax didn't do Gasaraki. They try not to do the same thing twice.

For the most part I enjoyed Gasaraki better than Eva... it's just something there that is lacking that I can't really place my finger on. One thing that I could really appreciate about it was the more straight-forward ending. Sad thing is that I would have never watched, much less purchase the DVDs, if one of my friends hadn't let me watch his VHS tape of volume 1. Everyone else I know just couldn't get into the series. :|

Wrong. Sunrise was the group behind Gasaraki... not Gainax.

I'll have to agree with BogoSort on this one. The connection to the characters in Gasaraki was there but difficult to grasp. I can relate to the characters much easier in Eva. In my opinion, Gasaraki was good but it was too slow. I didn't get interested in it until I saw the end of the 3rd tape. I would have liked to see more about the Kai and their relationship to the Gasaraki and the TA's.

Gasaraki...

Eva's not only too popular for it's own good, but I see Gasaraki as a more stable series and I like the plot. The music / action in Eva is good but to me, if an anime collapses on its ass in the end, I don't want any part of it. Yes, I'm an Eva hater and from what I can tell, I'm the only one in this thread who saw in its entirety both series.

Again it's just opinion but I like the romance which builds between the main characters in Gasaraki and dislike the insanity within Eva. "Rei will make a nice mother", strangling Asuka at the end of the world, etc.

The "techno-babble" and plot driven ideals of Gasaraki (and superior dub) caught me after the 2nd tape. Also, I didn't get a DVD player till later so it's the only series I own where I have the first 4 volumes on VHS and the rest on DVD...

I like how Gasaraki tries to be "realistic" in terms of ideas and design.

Ok, there's my $0.02. If you want spectacular action, stick with Eva (and maybe even DBZ  ) but Gasaraki is the anime for me. (I also like the intro and ending just as much as the Eva intros and endings. ^_^)
