*shivering* s-s-so....c-c-cold......Akira: Variety reports that Warner Bros. will produce a live-action English-language remake of the Japanese 1988 anime classic feature. Director Stephen Norrington ("Blade", "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") will reteam with "League" screenwriter James Robinson to pen the script whilst Jon Peters will produce. This remake will follow the original story of a futuristic motorbike gang leader who must rescue his younger brother from his involvement in a secret government project.

Members of the Org,
We stand here as a testament to the evils of American companies. It saddens me to see such great classics go to the pile. It is of greatest importance that this event shall come to pass swiftly and begone.
But we must have hope, for maybe, there is a chance that this one project will come through without too large of a problem.
Let us all pray that Akira does not burn in purgatory for the evils of others.

well, until I read the manga I wont jump to any conclusions about the butchering of the story. And as for as quality goes, it will either be incredibly good, or incredibly bad, I have a gut feeling this is going to be one of those types of movies. And it its good I tip my hat to the people making it, but if not, there will be hell to pay...

So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

First and foremost, this cannot be old news to anybody because the only thing that was floating around the past years were rumors, this is the first confirmed news and it was just revealed on October 10th.
Second, my stance on why I will perhaps not enjoy this film or as some sophomoric individual decided to label it "bitching"
Not that I don't think Japanese anime can be adapted into live-action in this day and age. For an example of comic book turned kickass live action I contend to you that Blade is a testament to the possibility of such things being made possible.
However what makes me most sick is this aspect. It's being made in America. Now I do not think that WB is going to be as F^CKING stupid as they could be, and cast say....I dunno....WHITE PEOPLE in the flick. (unless they follow the comic in which case we'd end up being the evil good-guys who get our ASSES KICKED GAHAHAHAHA!) So I don't think they're gonna screw that up.
What bothers me is that there's going to be a helluva lot of JAPANESE PEOPLE running around Neo Tokyo talking, screaming, shrieking, moaning, groaning and pleading IN ENGLISH!!! Same idea with The Last Samurai, which I will not go see, even if a death threat is placed on my testicals. A superior Japanese anime dub is one thing. Seeing real people walk around talking English for no apparent reason is another entirely.
What I'm also concerned about is what audience this movie is looking for. If the movie gets smacked with a PG13 from the get-go, f^ck it. That means it is being made with the intent to allow for a teenie-bopper following. If it gets R, then hell, I just might see it! There's no way it could be the same Kaneda if every other word out of his mouth (except around Kei) is a curse. Kaneda is to manga as Beat Takeshi is to yakuza films.
In conclusion, I don't fear the movie if it isn't being made for DBZ fans who won't have pubic hair for another 4 years.
