Gundam
I want to know what you think is the best Gundam show of all.
This could be no contest, but I don't know.
Gundam Wing is my favorite but it was the first I had seen at the time and really the only one I saw all the way through.

It's that Tomino-esque thing saying its Gundam but basically it's giant robot anime.

. The Gundam series lost many people very early-on.
If you take the series like I did, you'll understand what the Naturals and Selects
have been fighting-out ( when it comes to Genetic Engineering ) if you follow
this path:
Gundam Wing
Gundam-X
Gundam Seed
- umm, I'm not sure about Gundam Destiny - yet!
. Only these three follow that Genetic DNA Co-ordination Plots.

Mr. Oni: You hate SEED as well?
*Spoiler*
Mu La Flaga and Rau La Cruset are Newtypes.
*End Spoiler*
The best? Everyone will have their differences, but there is no one series everyone will agree on as the best.

Actually, if NTs are that big a hang-up for you, that also leaves:Mroni wrote:I hate all gundams with newtypes which leaves Seed and Wing and since Seed is much more wackable. I choose seed.
Mr Oni
-Gundam: 08th MS Team
-Gundam 0080: War In the Pocket (The Alex may be designed for one, but they're never actually featured in the series)
-Gundam 0083: War In The Pocket
-Mobile Fighter G Gundam
and
-Turn A Gundam
Besides, much like Zero pointed out, SEED DOES have Newtypes (and, as we discussed in another thread, Coordinators aren't exactly much better anyways.)
As for whacking...no comment...if you're just in it for eye-candy, that's your choice, but hey...
My vote:
I'm sticking with Zeta Gundam on this...yeah, so it's an older Gundam title, I still find the story to be one of the best out there...
All due respect to Wing, but after trying to review it after seeing some of the other titles it just seemed a bit too...well...staged...

Depends what you are looking for in a series. So far I don't think there's been a Gundam series I didn't like, apart from Destiny, it's kinda rubbing me up the wrong way. To my mind:
Gundam Wing + Gundam Seed = Gundam Seed Destiny
I know people will argue, disagree and whatnot, but that's just my opinion.
Dreadnought Gundam... If that isn't a cross between Wing and Freedom, I don't know what is

Anyway, back on topic.
I like Gundam 0083, though I've only seen 4/13 (I think there are 13 eps.) Has a nice old skool feel to it, the music is great and the realism is a definate plus point. It's fun to see the older soldiers picking on the younger ones, gives it that little bit more detail.
Oh and the animation is fluid. A lot smoother than Wing and X in my opinion.
Released in 1990
Then there's of course Gundam Wing. Was the first Gundam that I ever got to see, and living in the UK, in college, with only 5 TV channels, I was horribly deprived of anime. At that time, there was only really Dragonball Z on Cartoon Network, so I got into that. Then Gundam Wing came along. It seemed a lot more mature and was a whole new experience for me. I instantly latched on.
Although it stands out from the other Gundam series like a sore thumb (although that being the only Gundam series I knew at the time, the others looked like the odd ones out to me) it still remains a classic to me. Gotta love Treize's attitude, some of his speeches were fun too.
Gundam Wing was the start of the whole Gundam addiction for me, that's why as bad as it might have been and/or others view it, I still appreciate it.
Released in 1995 - The golden age for anime as far as I'm concerned (well, mid 90's in general)
Then Gundam X. After Gundam Wing and such, I got a computer in 2000, was 16 at the time, working a part time job... Bad times...
Basically logged onto the interweb and downloaded Kazaa (evil, burn me
) Started looking for other Gundam series. Found Gundam X fansubs. This was my series, a Gundam series I had discovered for myself, rather that following convention and going for something well known and commercial.
Though I love Gundam X, after seeing Gundam Wing, I found it hard to adjust.
I thought the art was similar to Gundam Wing, so I suppose I was hoping for it to be a sort of sequel, anyway, it's about as different as it could get.
That was my first encounter with "Newtypes".
Gundam X takes place in a barren world, 15 years after the war when the colonies were dropped on earth. The whole scene is very apocolyptic, the music is very different to Gundam Wing, I was dissapointed at first, but I've adjusted to it (and it's not Gundam X that's the odd one out, it's Wing for having the metal type music, most Gundam series have orchestral music as far as I know). Don't take this the wrong way, the Gundam X soundtrack is simply awesome, some really powerful music, some of it is plain freaky. It'll give you goosebumps if you listen to it loud
Information and good images of Gundam X are still very hard to come across, which is strange because I've never heard anyone badmouth Gundam X like some of the other series.
Released in 1996 - 39 episodes. Some say it was cut short (of I assume being 49/52 eps). I felt the last few eps could have easilly been played out in more detail a bit, especially ep 39, but it's good as it is.
A special Gundam X boxset is being released in Japan that features all sorts of goodies such as a 120page booklet.
No words on a US release yet... I hope they don't rush it, or take Seed Destiny as priority.
As for Gundam Seed. I don't have anything bad to say. Ok well, I kinda lied. The one thing that bugged me somewhat is the reuse of the design of Gundam Double X from Gundam X, though I don't hold it against anyone simply because it was an awesome design, and with Gundam X being cut short, it never got the screen time it deserved, so for me at least, Double X kinda lives on in Gundam Seed.

Gundam Seed gets really good towards the end (as you'd expect) and remains as a series I like.
I haven't seen much of Gundam Seed Destiny except 2 episodes and a bunch of models and mech drawings, so I can't really say that Destiny is lame, but:
Anyway, my comments about Destiny being Seed with Gundam Wing thrown in should be taken in good humour, but it does seem that someone added a can of whoopass to the Seed mix.
What are they feeding Tomino these days!?
