Too much action

Is there anyone else out there sick and tired of seeing action-related animes on Public Television? BECAUSE I AM!! Everytime we turn on the TV with our remotes there's is nothing but action-based cartoon drabble. On every anime I have seen so far imported onto American TV they have to have some sort of energy balls, guns, mechas, sword fights, explosions, mythical creature attacks, or martial art moves in it somewhere to have the show be entertaining. Can't we see one anime on TV that doesn't have horribly-butchered action as its main genre and/or plot-pusher? Does anyone agree with me on this? Seriously.

Action sells, it's true. And the sort of over-the-top action you see in TV anime sells doubly as it's something the kids don't get in American cartoons, and they go crazy over it being all awesome and stuff...

But really, face it, it's entertainment TV. Mainstream entertainment TV. When it stops entertaining in the most basic sense, it doesn't work. Action, on the other hand, is about the best and most basic entertainment you can get.

What's the alternative, really - at least, what do you have in mind? Are you suggesting if the DBZ timeslot is, replaced eventually by, say, 'Monster', the same audience would not feel cheated out of their basic entertainment?

soo from a troubleshooting perspective.... does the same thing happen when you turn the TV on without the remote?


if so then the problem is the american public digs action related anime.. Not only will most american children dig it but you can make tons of money off of it.
now my theory is most (cutsy titles like kurumi, or Ai yori ) will never be completely accepted if tossed into that primetime slot. mainly because it has to do with they way charachters interact with eachother. there is a level of culture written that goes into the story that isn't american culture. and that will have a harder time getting accepted into public TV... or something like that.

be grateful that you get all that kind of stuff on your tv...over here in the UK we hardly get any of it....mayb pokemon in the mornings is the most we get.... unless we purchase sky (cable) but our cartoon network is nothin compared to yours

You want pointless OTT action, just take a look at some of the movies they are releasing these days. They rely way to much on CG and huge explosions.

Now back in the day when there was Bruce Lee, that was awesome.

Um, anyway, that goes to say that, apparently, about the only alternative you have if you don't like what's on the TV is not watch it at all. It's working for me; and if so many people are indeed looking for alternatives, the drops in TV rating would eventually make the folks behind the big control panel worry and alter programming.

Plus I'm sure the fanservice and lesbian urges have something to do with it.

But yeah, they figure action shows will keep people with short attention spans happy and occupied. So CN may see L/R as a better risk than His & Hers (even thought that has it's own action ).
