School girls that save the world.... AGAIN!

Post by madbunny » Mon Sep 08, 2003 1:32 am

What is the deal with anime school girls that save the world?

How many anime can you think of where the fate of mankind (or at least a whole lot of people) depends on school girls (or boys)?

example:

Alien 9 - middle school girls don rollerblades and capture space aliens between classes.

Evangeleon - Too easy.

Project A-Ko - Ako, and Bko fight for the love of a space princess, and bad lunches.

Real Bout High School - They fight phantom monsters and stuff...

Evangelion (more like anime itself) is an escape out of reality. The show relies more on symbolism and messages than being original. And for the record... *SPOILERS*
They don't even save the world, it all goes to shit anyways. :P

Tokyo Mew Mew - you will merge with a cat and become feline.

Wedding Peach - getting people to the chappel on time.

Well, 'tis common. Eva's not one, though, true dat.

However, for every high school girl that saves the world, remember that there's a good dozen that fall in love with a slightly geeky guy, and most of them never even get him.

BTW, Yomiko from Read or Die is not a schoolgirl. She talks about taking teaching jobs... so I guess you could say it's school-related.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

It's not really suprising that they use young people, especially young girls to save the world. Japan has a great obsession with young girls *no not R Kelly obsession!!!* For that matter the world tends to like younger people to look at than to look at older men and women. I think Ruri-chan said it best. "In the past older men who were dignified looking were chosen as captains but recently younger more beautiful captains have become the trend. They for the most part dont have much power but are more so used for eye candy." I think this definitly applies to anime using younger people as the main characters. The animators also tend to make the characters more "developed" than a person the same age would be in reality. For instance Asuka is fourteen but more busty than most of the eighteen year olds I know. Also with male characters they tend to make them look more mature looking than what they should be. They make them look 25 at the age of 16 or 17.

You know I just realized that I typed that entire Ruri quote from memory . . . . GOD DAMN IT I NEED A DIFFERENT HOBBY . . . . *looks in hobby magazine* . . . WHY THE HELL ARE ALL THESE HOBBIES FOR 40 YEAR OLD MEN!!!!! Screw it!

Tenchi, in a way.
Last Exile seems to be heading that way as well.
