Perfect Blue

Post by Warpwind » Sat Aug 16, 2003 1:55 am

Okay people "Perfect Blue" is on my local televison station. I'm deciding if I should bother taping/watching it. I'm not a big fan of horror but if it's an involving psycological thriller with an actual point rather than just a excuse for violence and blood I'll give it a looksee.

and I suppose it is free...

so now feel free to let lose with the praise or rants.

It's definitely a psychological 'joy-ride' (which is why I won't watch it), and I've been told by a number of people that it's one of the 'deepest' anime movies they've seen. I'd give it a go, record it if you like - you can always record over it if you don't like it, and it beats renting/buying something you may regret.

This is the first I've heard of the movie being 'horror,' though. Most say it's angst and strangeness - mostly drama rather than anything 'scary.' But it could just have been the people I know who've seen it. :?

hmmm...

my pet hates are stupid pyschological thrillers that jerk around with my emotions offer no valid points, no closure and leave me thinking "great now I feel terrible" at which point I have to find another decent movie to watch so I can sleep without weird dreams. Movies that I've watched recently that fall into this category are One hour photo and Insomnia they were both okay movies but not on my will ever want to see again list.

And it's in the horror section of my local rental store which is why I wrote that. Mind you they may simply put any anime movie with a adult rating there for all I know.

It's not so much a "deep" movie as a psychological thriller. It can be mildly confusing, but makes sense overall. I'd recommend it.

I watched it..
she got naked..

I think she got stabbed to.. And there was this ugly bloke.
*confused*

If you got nothing better to do, watch it. If you like it than you can feel satified that you have watched it. But if you hate it and think it was a complete waste of time atleast you got something to talk about nya?

Blair Witch Project was one of those movies who's only value was bagging.
Damn that pissed me off, the hightlight of the movie was a guy standing in the corner? I've seen TellyTubbies eps more scary than that!

i also would not consider 'perfect blue' a horror flick, i consider films like halloween or nightmare on elm street, or gorey movies horror, but not perfect blue, this i would definately consider to be a thriller, 'psychological thriller' of course.
i agree, it is a bit confusing, but that's the way it's suppose to look, ur suppose to feel the anxiety that mima felt, so it's a good thing
it's a lot more clear when u watch it multiple times, that way u know wat's going on (hopefully) and u can tell the difference between dreams and reality a lot better the second or third time watching

i recommand.
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D

I also recommend this movie. It's actually more of a thesis on identity and celebrity than the stalker/pyschological thriller that it first appears to be.

As an aside, the original intention was that this movie be live-action, but as there was insufficient budget, they downgraded to anime
"A creator needs only one enthusiast to justify him." - Man Ray
"Restrictions breed creativity." - Mark Rosewater

A Freudian slip is where you say one thing, but mean your mother.

I highly recommend looking at the eyes very carefully. The artist/creator definitely is saying something about the personality of people based on the size of their eyes and shape.

Trust me.

I'm a cracker, so only I can say that and get away with it.
