Anime dads/fathers

Post by Lyrs » Mon Jun 16, 2003 2:13 pm

So, who do you gals/guys think are the best fathers or father-figures or would probably make the best fathers if they had kids?

Kaji Ryoji from NGE
Guko from DBZ :D

8)

I think Seta from Love Hna is a good father

and I like Tadashi Nanase from Narue no Sekai

and Vash from trigun would make a good Father

and I think Tenchi Masaki from Tenchi Muyo would make a good Father.

My vote for good (or at least underrated father):

Seabook Arno's dad in Gundam F91 - Besides the fact the guy shines greatly in comparison to other Gundam main character's fathers (who, for the most part tend to fall either into the uncaring, or the insane rubrics) this guy was there to bail his children out on several occasions. (Would get into examples, but I'm gonna try to avoid putting spoilers for now)
That's my vote anyways

oh you can't be serious that man was scary.. plus he offered very little in the way of support or love to his son. He used Shinji for his own ends.

I agree with you there but I also think that Wolfwood would make an excellent father. I mean he already was one practically to those orphened kids.

Ummm... who else?
the male lead..wind knight or something, can't remember his name from Pretear
Hiroyasu and Hideki from Chobits
Kenshin[/quote]

Well, this one's answered with his son Kenji by Kaoru, depending on whether you believe the original manga ending (he is a good father, stays with and helps raise Kenji) or the OVA 'Seisouhen' ending (he is not so good, always away trying to make up for his past, and Kenji comes to resent that he is not there for Kaoru).

As I'm sure you already predicted, I do not take anything from the second OVA as truth and hell half of the TV series. As yous aid so yourself, the original manga has an entirely different ending (a good one at that) and for a show that is directly adapted from the creator's manga, I don't accept things like fillers and stuff that was not in the Manga as 'truth.' Stuff like Eva where the manga came AFTER...sure the TV series is then the 'truth.'

In particular, the ending sequences in the manga are more open ended in that it just has Kenshin, his kid and Kaoru after Kenshin gives Yahiko the reverse blade and..well...one can assume happily ever after.

Like I said, you already predicted I'd say this, but that's how I feel.

************END OF SPOILERS*************

So yeah...as the original discussion, I'd agree that Kenshin would be a good father. Another would be either Hiko Seijiro from Rurouni Kenshin or Vargas from Escaflowne.

Now they're not IDEAL per se and I'm sure the kid would go through a lot of verbal abuse (well mainly from Hiko, Vargas actually seemed pretty supportive), you gotta admit the kid of those guys would be an all-out bad ass. :-D

I actually tried to avoid giving any opinion on which ending to believe just so as to give you an opening for that speech of yours, dwchang. Thanks for not disappointing :D
