Zero Serenity
Please ignore the n00bs. Or I may have to flame form the poor guy.

Flame away.

I've been doing it all day, my katana's going to brake soon.

Actually, no, it's good for Earth as well:
As a matter of fact, that's part of why Earth is so technologically set back in the beginning of the series.

Most Gundams are set for both space and earth fighting aren't they? I know in SEED they can fight in both, just it is a bit harder to fight on earth.

That's not what we're talking about actualy. We're talking about a weapon that ∀ Gundam (said as Turn A Gundam) and Turn X have.

From MAHQ:
As revealed by Gym Ghingnham and archived footage of the "Dark History", the Turn A was responsible for the destruction of Earth's civilization. Built by an unknown party, the Turn A employed the 'Moonlight Butterfly', a powerful attack that unleashed nanomachines across the world and turned all technology to sand. According the Gym, the Turn A was the brother unit to his own CONCEPT-X 6-1-2 Turn X, which was found buried on the Moon. The Turn A and Turn X would have their final showdown on Earth, where both suits activated their Moonlight Butterfly systems and were eventually encased in a large cocoon- along with Gym himself.

Here's the machines:
∀ Gundam
I must say it's one of the most ugly Gundams I've ever seen.
Turn X
For the last time it's not a Gundam!

As for your question, it depends. In Wing the original "Meteor" Gundams needed modifications to be effective in space and in 0083 RX-78GP-01 couldn't operate in space. But for things like SEED pretty much all Gundams don't need modifications. I think that covers it.

Funny story: Apparently that was part of why Tomino chose the design.

Most of the designs that had been handed to him for it before that were pretty derivative stuff (and for the record, I personally find Katoki's version downright hideous.) So he saw Syd Mead's designs and thought they had a duel purpose.

On one hand, they'd definitely be original

On another, it'd kind of serve as a wake-up slap to the faces of the other mecha designers out there to come up with something fresh.

(and for the record: Yeah...it looks pretty weird when you first get a look at it, but once you see it in motion, it's actually a pretty good design.)

Actualy it doesn't cover close to all the series. I can name at least five right now it hasn't touched.
Zeta, Double Zeta, Victory, F91 (Barely), G-Savior (If you count it), X, Turn A, 0087, SEED Destiny and SEED Astray. (There, that's ten) Plus all the Manga it leaves out.

Anyway, sites I recomend are Mecha Anime HeadQuarters and Gundam Plus. They have more information and are fan run.

As for the "Slap in the Face" ∀ Gundam... That's an interesting story. I'd like to see Katoki's design anyway.

Right, that's what I meant to say. Also, I'm going to have to check out those sites.
