Asuka handled herself extremely well in her debut episode. The only two times she actually needed Shinji's help were in Magma Diver and A Man's Fight. And even then, Angel 14 (Zeruel) just got lucky. Nor did she really whine (like Usagi's "Aw, but I wanna play video games instead of saving my teammates!"). She was too bitchy to whine.

The very few times (countable on one hand) that Asuka DID cry, it wasn't over pointless drivel. It was actually over a major issue, namely her looney-and-dead mother.

1) Asuka wasn't royalty 2) It's perfectly spelled out in the last episode that she by no means thinks she's better than everyone else. She actually has somewhat of an inferiority complex, thinks her life is worth nothing, and pilots Eva 02 for the approval of everyone else. Which is why she lost her mind when her synch ratio dropped to nothing and she was replaced by Kaworu.

Angels 3-5 arrived before Asuka appeared

She beat all those Production Evas (05 - whatever) by herself. Given she just realized her mother was watching her and all that, but still...she did it.

Now, if Auska was able to bond with her Eva from the begining she would of been more able to kick ass.
Difference is Shinji is so weak the eva kept taking over and even Rei had a stronger will than that pip squeek lil girly boy.

You mean the ones SHE THOUGHT SHE BEAT...but then came back and literally ripped her to pieces? yeah....that was some victory.....Face it, Asuka, along with pretty much ever other cast member of Eva are the WORST MOST ANNOYING CHARACTERS EVER!. So what if they have suposed depth? They are still annoying has hell too watch.

I've been thinking a bit about the whole Evangelion character problem. Basically, the only respectible characters in that series are Kensuke Aida, and Pen Pen (and the reason I support Kensuke, is because I knew a couple people just like him, that could ramble off the specs of Russian and American hardware by memory).

Here's a list of ways to solve all the character problems in Evangelion:

Shinji: Shinji needs to hang out with more mischievous guys his age (he needs friends like Hyde, Kelso, and Fez from "That '70s Show"), and a man he can turn to for guidance (Kaji would do the trick, but Asuka would be clinging to his arm too much for them to have any male bonding).

Asuka: A .475 Wildey Magnum FMJ round @ 370-400 grain (the most powerful handgun cartridge in the world) would suit her just nicely. If a less permanent solution is desired, she would also benefit from a hobby, and hanging around less uptight people her age (what's-her-face, the class representative, is too uptight).

Rei: She mainly needs to get some more clothes, and a restraining order for Gendo Ikari.

Misato: She needs to be introduced to some real liquor, instead of wasting her time with that crappy beer.

Ritsuko: Since she's a lying, backstabbing bitch, I'd prefer she gets wasted, and date-raped by Maya.

Gendo: Considering his constant abuse and control over Shinji and Rei, he needs to join NAMBLA.

Kaji: Perhaps he needs to be clean-shaven for once, or grow a decent beard. Otherwise, he seems to be relatively squared-away.

The rest have petty problems that could be easily resolved by taking some initiative.

Anyhow, I view Evangelion as being some good, interesting, dramatic entertainment, but nothing super earth shattering.
