I'm talking about the last five minutes. It disturbed me to no end that Characters X and Y could proceed at the end to live normal lives apart. But then, I tend to have the problem with fantasy in general that it seems as if most characters change during the storyline but at the end seem to practically forget everything they learned and did. Like the Wizard of Oz--in the book Dorothy wasn't just dreaming; she was actually gone. And yet she's perfectly content with being away from Oz, or so it seems (the sequels may say otherwise). If I were to get sucked into a magical fantasy world, I don't know if I'd be content with living life like I used to before the magical event.

Love strong enough to live apart also occurs in His Dark Materials. I never cried over a book like I did over that one. It was an epiphany.

Yup and Shoji Kawamori was pretty annoyed and thus his explanation about West and East cultural differences.

Well not exactly. Sure they're physically apart, but as Savia has implied, their love was so strong that they'd remember each other forever. Character X even says that they can see each other whenever they want, which is shown at the end.

Anyway, the reason I *like* the ending is because that type of love is so much more powerful then the stereotypical "they lived happily ever after yadda yadda" that every show cops out with. We need to realize that Character X has a life outside of Gaia that she needs to return to...with a family and so on. And Character Y has the same with his own world.

The fact that they can still remember each other and love each other without physically being with each other is far more powerful and strong than typical romances IMO. That's why I like it.

That's also the reason there is a difference between East and West cultures. No offense, but Western culture and movies dictate physical romance and the "being together" as important while Eastern doesn't focus on this and thus why no one in Japan complained about the ending and everyone in the states does.

I guess that sounds arrogant, but again, at AX2002 (maybe 2001), they laughed during the Escaflowne Movie ending and Kawamori was confused.

Agreed, that ending made me really sad to.

After getting to know the characters through those 3 books and watch as they began to care for each other.........*sniff*

Wow, I can't believe no one has mentioned Angelic Layer, that whole series was just one giant emotional build up between Misaki and her mother.

Although granted most people tend to make the assumption that Angelic Layer is all just about fighting (mainly cause 80% or so of all AL vids are fighting ones).

Here's one of mine that's all about the emotion:

Uh, keep in mind there are MAJOR spoilers and if you haven't seen the series you'll need to read the series synopsis I put in the description to know what's going on, otherwise you'll be lost.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

ive just realized i see a few VoH hameln fans in this thread, loved that series, i didnt think many have heard of it though, good to see it might be coming back :)
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..
