Yes, but then there's Mr. Popo in DragonBall.

Actually Kenshin was based on a real ruoroni from the Meiji Era. I forget the whole story, but I know there was something about this guy whom Kenshin was modeled after in the first volume of the Manga.
I'm not sure but,

I think you're mistaking kenshin for ninjascroll (/jubichan) as to which the main character was based of a man name jubli he had an eyepatch though which most of the anime's dont tend to place in on him.
No they are correct. IIRC, the character Himura Kenshin is based on 3 (or 4?) real hitokiri's during the Bakamatsu. IIRC (big if) one looked sort of feminime (Kenshin DEFINITELY looks feminine), one had red hair (not sure how this is possible) and another was good at sword drawing techniques.

Basically the manga creator knew this and melded them into one character and thus Kenshin was born.

ive always wondered that....looks like a bloated panda to me.

If you watch G Gundam, that has alot of "racial diversity".

I belive he is, yes.

But if you look other "black" people on dragonballz are much less light skinned, perhaps it's because he is so close to the sun compared to the others, who knows?

There are some other people who have their own views on this character design. Many, angry views that I can understand.

For those who are wondering, here is Mr. Popo.

I think some anime is racist, and some anime is highly sexist. But not all. I wouldn't make a generalization about it. It's fine to do it with the US mini-series and television shows - if the population of the viewing public is half and half, then you better be showing half and half, etc. Japan doesn't have that problem as far as I know, so it's not an issue on a wide scale.

And just for the record, I agree with UncleMilo - it isn't that everyone is racist. The word is 'discrimination' - everyone naturally discriminates = identifying differences, making categories to label things. It's the same reason the old "afraid of what you don't understand" is so true, it's human nature. And to understand that thing, they name it, categorize it, put it on a shelf so they can see it without being nervous - they discriminate and separate things into sections.

Racisim is treating someone badly or unfairly or just plain looking down on someone because he or she fell into a certain category. And racial discrimination is putting people into those categories for the sole purpose of making it easier to treat them badly because of their race.

By itself, discrimination isn't good or bad. It's the same thing you do when you see a bunch of fruit and say the orange round ones don't look the same as the hard red ones. The only problem is that it leads to bad types of discrimination, racial/ethnic/sexual/etc. But that's going all over the place.

That black guy in Macross Zero is pretty cool. He gets to ride at the back of the jet (Well, he IS the WSO). :\ And he's no more stupid acting then the white guy at the front of the Jet. Probabbly less stupid.
