I think some anime is racist, and some anime is highly sexist. But not all. I wouldn't make a generalization about it. It's fine to do it with the US mini-series and television shows - if the population of the viewing public is half and half, then you better be showing half and half, etc. Japan doesn't have that problem as far as I know, so it's not an issue on a wide scale.
And just for the record, I agree with UncleMilo - it isn't that everyone is racist. The word is 'discrimination' - everyone naturally discriminates = identifying differences, making categories to label things. It's the same reason the old "afraid of what you don't understand" is so true, it's human nature. And to understand that thing, they name it, categorize it, put it on a shelf so they can see it without being nervous - they discriminate and separate things into sections.
Racisim is treating someone badly or unfairly or just plain looking down on someone because he or she fell into a certain category. And racial discrimination is putting people into those categories for the sole purpose of making it easier to treat them badly because of their race.
By itself, discrimination isn't good or bad. It's the same thing you do when you see a bunch of fruit and say the orange round ones don't look the same as the hard red ones. The only problem is that it leads to bad types of discrimination, racial/ethnic/sexual/etc. But that's going all over the place.
