Don't worry about offending somebody,
With this group, that idea is considered fact.
At least it is with me :D .

Isn't that all that matters?

Especially since I agree, therefor, it is fact! :P

bullshit.

I think the majority of pretty much both types of animation suck.

Good because I get to see and read more stuff. Bad because all the idiots get to as well, and I have to listen to them harp about it, and get grouped in with the dumbasses.

Manga has become a pop-culture thing.... I saw a middle schooler reading one of those damn "teen girl" (you know, the crapy pointless ones) that said "Why you should care about manga" at the top. I put my head down and pretended not to notice. Ever since I saw that article, the girl and another girl have been swapping poorly drawn copies between one another. It's pissing me off. I'm considering doing a special re-reading of Escaflowne on the bus (the manga is violent, has lots of swearing and nudity) just to attract their attention and lend myself an opening to shoot them down.

I won't stop liking anime if it becomes trendy, because trends eventually die. I'll keep liking it as long as more good stuff keeps comming out. I'm just going to get continually more pissed at these damn kids.

I don't like MTV at all, and I'm appaulled at Tokyopop for advertising there. I refuse to supporty anything they put out other than Psychic Academy (funny series, but I've fallen seriously behind on my manga as of late..)

You mean you won't read Love Hina!??? :(

Don't miss out on that just because they advertise on MTV. but if you're too stuborn to read it, read Negima (Del Ray Manga)

i may be contradicting myself here. but that's the worst possible fucking reason to avoid manga, dislike aspects of it, whatever.
FANBOYS/FANGIRLS do it
teenie girls in japan do it, and they're not better or worse than the teenie girls in the us, and wherever you're from if outside the us.
besides, the way you say the first bit, you make it sound like the anime freaks here are elite. which they're not. we're all grouped together as dumbasses as well. just instead of going nuts over Nick Cannon, we all get hot over Asuka or Goku or some other animated figure.

let them read the manga, and they will let you read your manga.

Well, I can kind of relate with Tono_Fyr. I would get slightly irritated if the teenie boppers at my high school started taking an interest in manga.
I think the main reason this thought bothers me is:

Teeny Boppers liking manga = Me having something in common with them.

I doubt too many of us like being associated with those types of people.

You already have several things in common with them.

It is a good thing that anime is becoming more mainstream. in the last year, best buy has had quite a but of anime on its shelves, almost to the point of rivalling suncoast, and its alot cheaper then suncoast. Hopefully, all the pokemon and yugi kids will grow up knowing about anime. that would be a huge boost to the populatiy of anime. But i'm thankful for shows like berserk, GitS:ST and FMA that show that anime isn't for kids. (My roommate thinks anime is for kids, and i keep on telling him to watch the first episode of berserk) Once that generation become teenages and if they stick with it, Anime will be a comon place. the best part is congress can't do shit about it. its produced overseas so they can't restrict it very well. There is the TV rating system that inporters fall back on, but once anime goes mainstream, it may be changed to fit the new genere
