Oh, was it? I didn't consider they might have been related... but then, I never saw the movie, and the animated series is too old for me to remember much about, except for the general gist of the opening song.angelx03 wrote:Oh, I thought the cartoon was related to the movie. Probably because people could possibly confuse two cartoon series named "Conan [foo]", but a talk show is different enough that people won't get the two confused.azulmagia wrote:Then why isn't there "Late Night with C**** O'Brien"?angelx03 wrote:That's beyond FUNimation's control; they did try to keep the original name, but there was some copyright discripency with the American cartoon Conan the Barbarian. It's like that crappy case between Spike TV and Spike Lee; guess who won.
There are laws along those lines involving product/company names, I think, so it's probably something like that.

There never was a Conan cartoon. "Conan The Adventurer" was a live action show. I can understand why Lupin III was renamed "Rupan" or "The Wolf" though.SarahtheBoring wrote:Probably because people could possibly confuse two cartoon series named "Conan [foo]", but a talk show is different enough that people won't get the two confused.azulmagia wrote:Then why isn't there "Late Night with C**** O'Brien"?angelx03 wrote:That's beyond FUNimation's control; they did try to keep the original name, but there was some copyright discripency with the American cartoon Conan the Barbarian. I think if you do a quick search, you'll find that "Conan the Adventurer" was also an animated series that ran in the early 90s, and it is in fact based on the Conan comics. Personally, I remember it being on Saturday mornings.azulmagia wrote:There never was a Conan cartoon. "Conan The Adventurer" was a live action show.

I saw the first few episodes of Detective Conan/Case Closed years ago, but IIRC it is pretty bloody for a show targeted for kids (at least here, it's a-okay in Japan). Hell, the first episode features a beheading.

hmm. looks like it could be interesting but the animation puts me off and the fact that
the main character goes from a seventeen y/o to a second grader. Not too interested in watching a little kid (whether he's 17 or not) run around and solve crimes
but perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions. but still
