Huh? Who are you talking about? The hick/jock/alcoholic kids, the geeky kids, or the ones mentioned in the original post?bum wrote:their purposly against anything thats mainstream. they live to be different, to stand out. even if that means disregarding their true self. they generaly are pesemistic, and hate the world. i would say tht thier idiots, but i kinda feel sory for themCloud Clone wrote:That's pretty annoying...I wish anime were mainstream here!![]()

I can understand where they're getting at. When you're a devoted fan of an activity, group , or such, you feel quite different from most people and are quite proud of it too. Yet when you realize something such as anime has crossed over to the mainstream, you'd feel kinda left out, abandoned, or betrayed. You're into anime because the feeling of watching and thinking about anime has touched you in a certain way that only you knows how it is. Then when upon finding out that the mainstream audience likes anime too, you don't feel so different from the mainstream at all, you come to believe that they don't like anime for the same reasons as you. You feel the reason anime is popular with the mainstream just because its the flavor of the month, instead of being realized as an intelligent, entertaining personally moving medium. They're not feeling the same personal feelings as you are, so you tend to develop a sort of elitist perception of the general public, and strongly believe that they should watch anime for the same reasons as you.
The elitist attitude can also come from being annoyed by the exposure of watered down anime, or anime made just for bed wetting kids. So, then you feel you are superior just because you watch the "real" stuff.
But anime is just another form of media that happens to be very vast. Anime is just like music: there are many types and always something for everyone

demented, you speak the truth...I myself fall into that elitist category at times, but it doesn't stop me from doing what I like...that would be dumb.
Those people probably didn't truly appreciate the anime themselves, if they gave it up so easily, however, so it might acutally be more appropriate to say that anime was their flavor of the month...

Does anyone else have the same problem that I do, though, and wish that anime would become more mainstream?

Speaking as both an elitist and as a fan, I'd like the more prolific anime to cross over to the mainstream television. I'm talking about Berserk, Hellsing, and a good old cheesy favorite, Fist of the North Star. Wolf's Rain is a good start for this year though
