I never said it was a yaoi anime, just that I think it would appeal to fans of those two anime. Though if you want to get technical, there is a certain redhead named Toboe who proclaims to like a certain friend of his by the name of Tsume who has more than one yaoi fangirl giggling in appreciation over Wofl's Rain. But that's not why I mentioned it - it has the soft lovely animation style (like ai no kusabi - think Iason's hair), the angst of that anime (felt by all of the bishonen in Wolf's Rain), the sweet innocence of Earthian (namely Chihaya's empathy - Toboe certainly fits the bill there), and on and on. It's a genre, you might say - as a fan of both the anime I mentioned, and a new fan of Wofl's Rain, I *know* why I liked it so much - because it has things in common with other anime I also liked. I never said it had anything to do with being a yaoi or nonyaoi anime. Not everything I talk about has to be yaoi in nature. ^_^;

And violence - compared to other anime I've seen the little 'wolf fights' don't really seem explicite at all. Watch the Kenshin ovas, or maybe even Hellsing - then you'd easily throw Wofl's Rain into the same level of Violence as Earthian (no one in Wolf's Rain has a body part ripped off of him by someone he cares about). >.>

OK, so that was a somewhat unexpected response. I was making a joke based on Ai no Kusabi and my personal experience with it. Anyway, I will definately agree about the animation style, even if some of the content drove me nuts. As for violence.... I'm not certain violent/not violent should be determined by comparison with the most graphic material commonly available.

As for Toboe, all I'm going to say is that I think he's more than a bit off.

As for genre, a lot of the relatively new stuff seems to be high on the angst-o-meter (or maybe it's just me). Of course, bishounen and angst seem to be going together more and more often. Maybe certain American cultural trends are starting to spread... O.o

Actually, the angst was the thing I liked least about Ai no Kusabi; or rather, angst in the middle of the story is fine but I wanted a happy ending, darn it. >.< Same complaint I have about Berserk - it as awesome until the last 5 or 6 episodes got really horriffic.

To answer the earlier question about violence - I don't like it when characters die, but comic or non-fatal violence I don't have a problem with. Like Fushigi Yuugi, I was very upset when the characters started getting killed off, I felt kind of betrayed by the author,lulled into a false sense of security by all the comedy. I suppose it's the character/social/authorial mindset that leads to the violence that I don't like. I hate tragedy, and I also think battle scenes are just kind of boring - I have a shorter attention span for explosions and martial arts than most people.

It takes a while to get there, but Wolf's Rain had a nice ending, justifying the angst that paves the way there. ^.~ And it does have some very cute/sweet episodes along the way. Other than YYH (which I would recommend if it weren't 112 eps, some of which are pure tournament style fighting), Wolf's Rain has one of my favorite endings for a longer anime.

Recommended Anime!

Wow, all are great but i'm soo surprised that no one mentioned NARUTO. (or did i miss that...) Great action anime with humor and cleverness. You're hooked from the start. It's still ongoing and is not released domestically yet. Others i recommend are: BERSERK, FURI KURI (FLCL), WITCH HUNTER ROBIN, and BUBBLEGUM CRISIS 2040 (didn't watch the older version.) Mostly i like to cool, dark anime rather then the lovely dovey anime like SOMEDAY'S DREAMERS or AI YORI AOSHI. (FRUITS BASKET doesn't count :wink: )

I don't think 'minimum violence' goes with an action anime like Naruto (think Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho) - there are good anime, but action anime is violent by nature. Can't be helped. ^_^;
