Since I'm now coherent, I'll try and rephrase my last post. Here goes.

I personally loved Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz, but couldn't sit through any of the other sagas. They just did not do anything for me.
However, one saga seemed to escape that fate: Gundam X.
So, what I'm saying is, is you liked GW and EW, but not any of the other sagas, you will probably love GX.
The series goes thouroughly(sp) into every pilot's backhistory, and most of the main characters who don't pilot.
The ending of the series was a bit... Different. Good enough to allow the series to be called "complete", I guess, but it was still kind of... Odd.

So, yeah. I guess I made my point. Also, a correction on my first post: Gundam X is in the US, but not on DVD. I own the first 5 episodes subbed on VHS, and I saw the 2nd volume VHS(eps 6-10) on sale at AWA this year.
Good luck finding the tapes any place outside of an anime convention, though-- They're tough to find.

Although, if you live in New York City, I've got some good news for you. They sell the Gundam X tapes at HJK stores. -thumb up-

In my opinion, the best Gundam series so far has to be 08th MS Team. That series kicked ass. But Gundam Wing and EW were great also (my 2nd faveorite Gundam series). I have the dvd and have watched it many a time.
And I have yet to see Gundam Seed but it looks pretty good.

Myself, I like Gundam Wing as a whole. Enless Waltz was pretty good as well. But I've never seen any other series of Gundam, so I don't have much authority on the subject. What I can say is that I've noticed (whenever the subject arises), that most people prefer ANY other Gundam series to Gundam Wing. o_0 Sounds odd, and I think so too, but I find it's not uncommon for people to dislike Gundam Wing the most. But like I said, I've never seen any other series, so I guess it's possible...

Glad to see you posting on the forums again, Anime Jedi. =p
Anyhow, most people don't like GW because of the fangirls that accompany it.
"OMG!!11 [insert pilot here] IS SO HAWT!!" and never give it a chance.

But, usually, it's the fact that GW has, like, EVERY gundam ever created in the show, and thus, people think the series extends WAY too long than it should.

Or that's what I've heard, anyway. =\

As for the gundam astroid question... It SOUNDS like the first gundam ever made, but, I'm not good with names... =\

Sounds like Char's Counterattack...asteroid in question being Axis. As for the gundams...actually, that movie has only one (two if you count the Re-GZ as a souped up Zeta, but I digress) outside of Nu Gundam, the rest of those units were Jegans, GMs (can't remember which type they're up to by 0093) and Geara Dogas..
Plus, they tech. don't succeed in pushing it back (not as a whole anyways) the major pushing force results from Nu Gundam overloading and exploding...
...
Sorry...got a bit nitpicky there...

I still like Gundam Wing, but Gundam 0083 is more of the angle I prefer. It's not that I hate Gundam Wing, seeing as it was the one that got me relatively hooked into anime (at least what I could find on digital cable). But it was Adult Swim, Toonami's Midnight Run, the Action Channel, and Tech TV's Anime Unleashed that got me seriously hooked on dubbed anime (like I said before, subbed is good for accuracy's sake, but I prefer dubbed just because I don't need to concentrate so hard to understand what's going on).

The 08th MS Team is a nice blend of the more technical "Trekkie" side the Universal Century timeline focuses on, while it incorporates the emotional and comedic style of the alternate universes (Gundam Wing's After Colony timeline, Mobile Fighter G-Gundam's other wacky timeline, etc). The 08th MS Team is probably what you're looking for. Just DON'T WATCH MOBILE FIGHTER G-GUNDAM! It's basically a mech knock-off of DBZ!

...OK...just to clear this up (since I keep seeing it and it keeps getting pretty old)

G Gundam is NOT supposed to be DBZ with mecha...the reason it seems so cheezy is because it got made as an homage to super robot shows from the 70s. The stuff like yelling out attack names and the weird mechs owe more to Mazinger Z and Getter Robo than anything by Toriyama...I think the only real connection between G and DBZ is the Super Mode and SSJ...and even then that's pretty minimal...

...sorry...had to get that out of the system...not saying one should view it either which way (personally, I'm OK with it, but I can see why others would dislike it)...it just kind of bugs me to see people keep listing it as DBZ with mechs when it actually owed very little towards Z...

Okay, so that's all cleared up. However, are there any animes out there where combat does not take the form of an RPG? I mean, come on! In almost every single anime, there's always a time lag between the villian attacking, the protagonist getting initiative, attacking, and then blocking. What the hell?

A great example is DBZ. In all the time that is wasted with all the useless talk, Goku could have easily wiped the floor with so many of the villians, it isn't funny. The only good example of real combat is the episode in which Vegita goes after Androids 19 and 20. He doesn't waste any time talking trash. He just goes straight on the attack, and tears them apart.

Back to Gundam, even Endless Waltz follows the same pattern. If you carefully watch the battle sequences near the Barton mansion, Zechs, Noin, Quatre, Trowa, and Duo are just sitting still while the other mobile suits are firing volley after volley of missiles. Finally, after all the missiles are fired, then the good guys attack (but of course it takes a helluva lot of time for them to engage the enemy, because they have to fly into CQB range).

This is why I prefer Gundam 0083 over any of the other UC timeline series. They space battles are still pretty jerky, but lots of stuff is going on all at once, instead of one mobile suit attacking at a time.

Honestly, not really sure why that is...I guess it's easier on the writers/animators to try and focus on just one attack at a time

If you check the latter half of MSG (roughly from Operation Odessa outward) you get to see more multiple combats going on (prime case of this being A Baoa Qu...the part sampled in 0083 is mild compared to the full blown battle)
Also, if you wish to see more multiple MS attacking at once, again, gonna say when Zeta arrives, check it out (most of the battles tend to be full-blown combat rather than just one moves, next moves, next moves)
