No, but you have to remember that they're fighting for a GOOD REBELLIOUS CAUSE.

In the US, that means that they're FREEDOM FIGHTERS and should be massively encouraged and praised.

You see, them and terrorists, they do the same stuff. Only, if they do bad stuff to America, like Al-Quaeda, they're called TERRORISTS. If they do bad stuff to others, like the Chechen rebels, they're called FREEDOM FIGHTERS.

Aw shit... that's politics. I better run.

Anyways, GW isn't that terrorist to begin with. It's mostly warfighting on a military vs. military basis.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

OK...in regards to what people dislike about Wing...I'm gonna finally vent on this

(on a note before-hand: You don't need to point out the irony of what I'm about to say in light of my username, I've already taken note of it for some time now)

First: The plot...personally, I'd say it's pointless on a few levels...first there's the repeated fluctutation of the 'Enemy of the week' (first the Earth is the enemy, then it's OZ, then it's the Romefellers, then it's White Fang...etc...etc..)
Plus the fact that, if you look at the earlier Gundam series, you'll see Wing borrows many of its aspects from them, such as the obvious Zechs/Char comparions (the final Libra battle owes quite a bit to the movie Char's Counterattack)
Second, there's the way the 'War is Hell' theme is shown...if you look at this in comparison to other Gundam series, in other series, even when some of the random grunts went down, some of them you honestly felt bad for (for example, listening to one paniced rookie call out of for his mother right before his MS blows up...it seems kind of silly in text, but as a scene, it lets you know the pilot was a human being...in Wing, you don't get that feeling, for the most part, it's faceless extras who scream "It's a gundam, fire!!!" and are then gone in the blink of an eye.)
In short: In most other Gundam series, when soldiers die, they still will make an effort to make you realize it's not just a robot blowing up, but that there's a person in that robot...whereas in Wing, it's a talking head inside a robot (if they're lucky...if they're not, they're just a faceless grunt that's casually obliterated.) After the battle, there isn't another thought about them, even the few OZ soldiers that you get to know, such as Lt. Otto, after they're killed, are usually forgotten about before the episode is over...in most cases without even making a noticable enough impression on the audience for us to have any idea they were more than just a talking head.

Whew...kind of got long-winded there...but I digress...it's just gonna continue...
The characters themselves...I'm sorry...for all there speeches, they still came across as pretty shallow...I mean you've got:
Heero Yuy - Sterotypical silent 'perfect soldier'
Duo Maxwell - The sarcastic joker who still has a dark past to angst about (if you include the manga anyways)
Trowa Barton - the cool, quiet one (like we haven't seen THIS character type done countless times...)
Quatre Raberba Winner - The gentle nice guy of the group
and
Chang Wufei - The tough brooding guy

And yes, while I'll acknowledge they did express their views on war, they often contradicted them with their actions (Quatre offering surrender, then killing the soldiers who refuse when crippling their MS would have worked just as well...Wufei speaking of fighting with honor, then slaughtering several OZ soldiers as they sleep...Heero, who laughs as he kills then later asks to not kill anymore...etc...)
Ironically, Relena, one of the most despised characters in the entire series, seems to be the only one who manages to stick to what she preaches.

But, of all the things that (IMO) were wrong with this show, I think the worst was the fact, in light of what stories I've heard, the creator really only gave it a half-hearted effort. Especially on the regards of character interaction where, in what's been theoried was a combination of an attempt to score higher with the female audiences and the creator's own admission of lack of confidence in convincingly depicting relationships, the Wing boys' sexualities were left deliberately vague and all relations kept ambiguous. Throw in the fact there's reports that more emphasis was made on bishounen character design and fancy mecha to lure in audiences than work on actual story (which would explain why it feels like a retread of UC) and it feels like they were just making an eye candy series...

Whew...well...there you have it...my thoughts on Wing...a mediocre series in a fancy looking package

(But, that's just me)
