I'm quite sure that's what happened. Yet, we still don't know what really happened to those people. Tsukasa's case was different.

You will see what happens to Sora in end of .Hack//Sign and like I said before, .Hack//Liminality answers alot of questions.

Liminality occurs in the real world and is set in the same time period as .Hack//Sign but with different characters.

Seies of 4 OAV's. It's all real world, perhaps even more outwardly bland than //sign, but if you must know more about the whole .hack thing - watch it. I liked it myself...

Sora's fate is still unresolved at the end of the show. He's supposed to appear in the third .hack game, though.

I think that the 'fate worse then death' that the voice is telling Sora that he's going to be forcably trapped within the game and forced against his will to serve whoever entrapped him. I'm not sure who the voice is (Her real name is Morganna I believe, who she is i'm not sure), and the //Luminality series doesn't seem to have a solid connection with the show as far as I can tell, except that its dealing with the same issues (Not the same people involved except one). I still need to watch one more episode of Luminality though so I'm hoping it connects more with the events of the first series.

Haven't played the games, but since the third .hack series (.hack//Legend of the Twilight Braclet) doesn't tell you who the voice is I'm pretty sure that thats solved in the game (Although I'd rather watch an anime on it then play the game.. sigh).

Liminality makes more sense if you play the games. Essentially, the actions in Liminality happen around the same time frame as the games. In fact, a few events in the last 2 games relate to Liminality.

That's why the games and Liminality are bundled together.
