Ditto, but then, I don't have Mom and Dad paying my housing and bills for me.

I didn't get into anime while I still had money to burn; I didn't pay it much attention till after college. Kinda makes me wish I'd started earlier like you guys, I'd have a much better collection.

I prefer to save up for boxsets myself. Cheaper overall for the same product. Last fall, I bought Oh My Goddess, Outlaw Star (got a $30 discount by pre-ordering), and Saber Marionette J, along with some random movies.

I started the semester with about $2000 saved up.

I was down to $100 by December.

True, part of that is because my ex loved to take road trips across the state, and those add up, but still, it wouldn't have hurt to cut back on the anime purchases.

So, in other words, yes. Cut back if you really want to start saving up for College. Christ, man, an average of 3 DVDs a week? That's 12 a month, at roughly $25 a DVD depending on where you go and how much shipping is if you order online...

For $300 a month, you could easily buy groceries and pay utilities on an apartment (if not included in rent). Christ, man, $300 a month is 3/5 of what my monthly total rent was last year! For $300, you could probably go in with a friend on an apartment and have rent and utilities covered entirely when you combine your efforts. Hell fuck yes you should cut back! I'd KILL for that much extra money!! I spent most of last year worried SICK about whether or not I'd be able to make rent. I'd have sold my damn legs for an extra $300 a month, for my mental security if nothing else!

So, yes. Cut back. One or two a month at the most, IF THAT!!

I WISH I had $100+ a week to blow on frivolous stuff. The only DVDs I actually get are birthday and Christmas, and I bought Death and Rebirth as a celebration of the end of Finals Week this Spring (and an early b-day present to myself

) because no way in HELL can I cough up $140 for a boxset.

But back on topic....

Yes, definitely cut back your anime habit. I have a 75% scholarship and a mutual fund paying for rent and what's left of tuition, plus about $120 per month for incidentals. No way in hell can I afford to buy anime. As stated before, I believe I bought ONE DVD the entire semester, and that was after finals.

Although here's an option you might consider. If you have a powerful enough computer, try renting anime DVDs and ripping them. It's great for making videos of an anime you may not plan to own, but don't want to really bootleg, either.

Depends on your area of town. Here in Orlando, $300 a month won't even cover rent in most places

Although when most people advertise housing deals around campus, they usually include utilities, at least in my neck of the woods. And the cheapest housing I've seen in the realm of $340-$375 a month. Right now I'm paying roughly $400. Not including groceries.

Another money-saving tip: cut down on the booze and quit smoking if applicable. Not only will you be healthier, but those are both VERY expensive habits. Especially smoking (one reason I never started). I've known people who smoked 2-4 packs a day, which translated into about $10-$20. $15/day = a whopping $450/month blown on cigarettes (pardon the atrocious pun).

And man... I'm so lucky I don't smoke nor drink at all, otherwise I'd be so broke that... well, I really can't imagine me being broke more than I am.

Try to eat less, too. That has its' own health benefits, unless you stretch it too far...
