I am sorry but there is no point to having kun, chan and such and such in subtitles. It adds nothing to the subtitles and makes it look unprofessional. It makes it look like a 15 year old fangirl's fanfiction and that is bad. Granted the subs are more accurate than some *cough* most things translated by Anna Exter*cough* but there is a line between being accurate and being gratuitously fanboyish in execution. What works in Japanese does not necessarily work in English and that was the fault of Funi in the Fruits Basket sub. Do remember some otaku no not a single word of Japanese... just because you and I understand it doesn't measn my pals who I struggle to get to watch subs at all will have a clue.
And their dub for Fruits Basket was decent except it seemed to have watered down some of the um, more questionable content. That is Funi's motto is they can't possibly leave a show entirely intact.
And Funi has done rancid jobs with much of their stuff. Yu Yu whatever, (I forget how to spell it) sounds autrocious dubbed. I mean this is a trend with them. The Lupin movies I think are kinda average. A bit of a hit and miss with some voices. And again, Fruits basket was a good dub job in most respects except fro the deliberate toning down of questionable content.
Now this leaves me to wonder exactly what Kiddie Grade will be edited because there is a lot of sexual tones in there and that is the most liekly thing Funi would manipulate.
