Should I start collecting Spiral?

I'm getting REALLY hesitant of whether I should start getting this series. On the plus side, the character designs look really attractive and I like the detective/mystery aspects. Then I heard form the other people (who has seen the wholle series) that the way the main characters solve crimes don't even make sense (I can't really give examples, but I sort of took their word for it). So is this entire series really worth investing in?

I saw the first few episodes. It's okay but not great, in my opinion.
I found the mysteries rather uninteresting. Some of the aspects and details of the mysteries seem a little farfetched at times and there was a lot of information that only the characters knew. Personally, I like it when a mystery involves the reader/viewer.
I also had a hard time sympathizing with the characters.

But this is an opinion formed from watching just five episodes.

Mystery-solving is done in a very Holmes-esque manner of "well, I took this tiny little clue, extrapolated in various improbable ways, and now I have the answer". Deals more with knowledge of human nature and typical reactions than abstract logic.

It's slightly more interesting with the MacGyver style improvisations of tools and equipment. But not by much.

Oh, and the story gradually becomes more complex and conspiracy-theorist until, suddenly, it stops. With no explanation. My only guess is that they ran out of material to animate, although I didn't know about the existence of the manga until recently.

I think they just ran out of episodes and had to find a convenient stopping point in the story. I've read elsewhere that the manga continues beyond where the anime ends.

Anyway, why me?

I think things really start getting interesting on the second or third DVD, when the characters have all been introduced (except for Kanone) and the Hunters start gaining in prominence. The situations are more fun when there's more than just Narumi and Hiyono working together on them.

But just so you know, that question posed by the first DVD, "What are the Blade Children?"? It's never completely answered.

For me, Spiral's another one of those series where the journey's rather more enjoyable than the destination (I found NieA_7 to be the same way).

Disclaimer: I have not actually seen any of the DVDs; I've only seen the series fansubbed.

(Oh yeah, and Eyes is hot.)

I realy liked the series. What I didn't like is, as everyone else is saying, it didn't realy end. It left alot of stuff unanswered and it felt like they just ran out of budjet for it or something and had to just stop it convininently, sort of like what Scintilla said. Even so, the anime is worth checking out in my opinion. I won't agree that the way he solves crimes don;t make sense though, most of them do. However, sometimes he does just rely on luck, and ocasionally something might happen that makes you say, yea right, that would never happen in real life, but hey, its anime.

good description as already given of what the anime is mainly about, so I won't repeat, but I'll just add that I recomend it, but if the manga does continue it, you probably want to look into that also ;p
