MKVs and Vegas

Hey guys,

So I'm not exactly sure if this is the right forum for this, if it isn't then please direct me to the actual one.

But I have some mkv video files, and to my knowladge they don't play in vegas. Is there a codec or something that I need to have to get them to play so that I can edit with them? I love the quality and last time I converted mkv's to avi they came out terrible and I dont want to butcher my material like that.
So any tips and ideas, or possibly a step by step would be super helpfull.

I have read that guide, I get most of it, but it all seems so complicated. It all works, I was just wondering if there was a simpler way perhaps. But thank you for the help

There is no simpler way, although there are smarter better ways. Now, where did you get that mkv!
