It's good to have different experienced editors' vids linked here as well as the newbie ones. Watching the 'pros' at work teaches nearly as much as having them give you reviews. And I can't speak for everyone, but I don't go out of my way to watch the videos everyone thinks are wonderful. I don't care what dead or retired editors may have made to rock the world. But reviewing a great vid, by someone who will talk back to you after the review and then look at your work so you can make a proper comparison - why, that's hands on experience, and a very good thing. ^_^ I think this thread could do well to bring the newbie makers and the pros into the same place to compare amvs.

--And Dead_Pool's most recent is the Ghost in the Shell, the Sour Blood girl is the one that came out right before it. ^_^

At the BARE minimum you should look at Odorikuruu and Euphoria. For simplicity's sake, I'd highly suggest TaranT's Sakura amv...

Once you've got those 3 at least watched it's more for learning! But those are just my suggestions. The vids that "everyone are talking about" I think aren't things to be ignored... They must be doing something right...

I've watched the required viewing list, and I won't horrify anyone with my opinions on those. They are among the few videos I didn't bother to leave reviews for since I had nothing constructive to say. I know why we have to watch the great videos, it's a good introduction to greatness. But it's like reading Moby Dick, you can't exactly do anything about it once the writer's out of the picture, you can only look, nod your head at the skills, and then mumble under your breath about how the style doesn't match what you 'enjoy.' No one would go to a literature class, study literature greats, and then become better writers from just reading the works. On the other hand, showing your papers to a person who's an acclaimed novelist and comparing with them is a hands-on experience - it's the 'hands-on' that I'm emphasizing here.

A lot of the videos that are called 'great' are editing wonderfully, but a lot of them are called great because a majority of people *enjoy* watching them, which makes greatness even more than just the skills. If you don't enjoy watching a video, no matter how wonderfully it's made, studying it to improve yourself is like reading a 'great' novel - it'll teach you a little, but in the end it's just a piece of work set down somewhere with no life behind it for you to get feedback from. That's all I was trying to say. I want to share not just the viewing of a good video, but the person who created that experience for me. I won't get that from watching Euphoria, no matter how many times I watch it. Believe me, I've tried. :?

Wow Omni! Thanks a ton for your detailed and unbiased review... just what I needed.

Some of it was expected, some is very helpful. But wow, coming from someone sceptical about the anime and music - the marks really mean a lot. At least now I know I've pretty well succeeded in what I wanted to do (the only other review I had was from a RL friend). First step out of the way, now I'll have to tackle something with lyrics, keeping the previous mistakes in mind...

So, thank you again! Will return the favor soon.

Strongly suggest more rookies to jump on this opportunity - this guy's the real deal

My vid is linked in my sig as "Civil Strife". Sure, I've been toying with AMV stuff since August, but I made this vid back in September (I've just been REALLY lazy about making a second...third...fourth, vid) I read the guides for it, and used some filters to both brighten, and clean up the scenes as much as possible. The only real quallity problem still is a ghosting effect in the fog/gas and some lack of deffinition in darker scenes.

I appreciate blunt, and to the point, reviews.
