Beo's Unused AMV Ideas Vol. 1

Post by Beowulf » Tue Nov 17, 2009 7:10 pm

When Wonka and I first started HypeO, I created an AMV journal text file (that is almost 8 years old now, *sniff*) that listed the anime/song/artist combination of every AMV idea I ever had. Naturally I never got around to making all of these, but I still think a lot of them would be pretty damn awesome. These ideas range from cheap mood synch to unmade masterpiece, and I have no plans on editing any of these things. I have about 70 of these ideas, so depending on interest in these threads I might post some more at a later date. No, I'm not retiring, just releasing some jewels . I'm not listing the ideas I still want to do :P. Someone please make these videos!

1. Angel Cop with NWA's Straight Outta Compton:
Hillarious ultra violent rap video. Ice Cube's verse could be the main asshole hero dude, with his angry looks , MC Ren's Verse could be the ice bitch female cop blowing off dude's heads, and Easy-E's verse could be the evil she-male boss at the end with her saggy tit and mental powers, which would be hilarious since Easy's voice is so high. Lots of violence, lots of beat hits, and lip synch on the punchlines. Kinetic gun paced action, with police sirens, and people's heads exploding. Basically a sequel to my Natural Born Killers video.

2. Berserk with Korn's Dirty/No Place To Hide/Good God:
You could make a dark angry Gutts action video with almost any song from Korn's "Life Is Peachy" album. Big internal conflict, evil demon rage sword cutting heads off kinda thing. Big synched SCREEEEEEEEEAM moment during the climax, especially during Good God. I remember the reason I didn't make any of these video's was because I ended up making the Berserk section of my manson video instead, and got to edit the big SCREAM moment anyway. Pretty straight forward dark/action video that leans on the song a lot.

3. Berserk with Metallica's One:
Dark brooding Berserk video that builds into a super evil demon climax. Focuses on griffiths internal pain during most of the build-up, and is mainly a dark drama until the action filled demon climax. Big strobe lights on DARKNESS. IMPRISONING ME. ALL THAT I SEE. ABSOLUTE HORROR. which would look great on a big screen in a dark convention room. Flashbacks effects of all the characters that have shaped his life, possibly intercut with their demonic demise. Griffith spends most of the video in the torture room fantasizing about better times and turns into a demon at the end to fuck shit up. Guts yells a bit and kills some things.

4. Boogiepop Phantom with Bjork's Hunter:
Classic dark, stroby boogiepop video, just like all the others. You can only really make ONE type of video with boogiepop anyway, but this one would lean on the strength of the beat hits, with stop-start stroby editing. I didn't make this because the song wasn't dynamic enough and Bjork kind of takes the video into an entirely different place when she starts yelling "HOOOOOOOOW SCANDENAVIAN OF MEEEEEEEEE". The first 90 seconds would be classic for an MEP though.

5. Boogiepop Phantom with David Bowie's I'm Affraid Of American's:
Fucking CLASSIC idea, which would become one of the definitive Boogiepop videos if done right. The boogiepop stalks the various characters in a verse/chorus structure. Combine it with an arty and tasteful use of grain and some other visual candy, the strength of the lyric synch and catchiness of the song would be an instant-winner. "Johnny" could be the guy who eats spider's from people's boobs and would fit great when the phantom stalks him. During the breakdown/extended outro of the song, you could switch to big zoom out butterfly beautiful stuff, contrasted with shots of corpses and other various evil. Fucking Gold.

6. Cowboy Bebop with Beastie Boy's Sabotage:
A direct copy and parody of the live action Sabotage music video directed by Spike Jonze, including tacky freeze frames with big sized ugly fonts spelling their names. SPIKE SPIEGEL AS "THE ROOKIE". Spike, Jet, and Faye kick in doors, punch people in the face, fly fast in space ships, spend money, and generally have a rocking good time. A reoccuring gag would be to have Ed lip synch Ad Rock's verse kick offs with "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH CANT STAND IT". Funny crowd pleasing video, with bare essentials fast paced cut style editing.

7. FLCL with The Beatles' Helter Skelter:
A mix between Shameless Rock Video, and jbone's "And Thats That". Wild crazy, erratic, FLCL action video with a gritty effects to match the song. As if Gainax had been taking speed and not mushrooms when they drew all that stuff. One of those kinds videos that would require a very skilled touch, and would only be decent if a heavyweight made it. Could easily turn into a boring action video with a grating song in the wrong hands.

8. Hellsing with Nine Inch Nails' Big Man With A Gun:
I almost did this idea for 2005's Masters competition, lol. Basically the same concept as Fluxy's Eternal Damnation: Hellsing in 90 seconds. Robotic editing, hitting every beat, flashing every layer, a bonanza of distorted imagery with great lyric synch. Great tension and dark snuff style stuff during the "SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT. I AM GONNA CUM ALL OVER YOU" stuff with Alucard shooting things and shots of Victoria eating people's necks. Just great self empowering lyric synch to see Alucard transform into the big badass thing during I'M HARD AS FUCKING STEEL. I'VE GOT THE POWER. Classic vampire/sex/violence stuff.

9. Kare Kano with Dove's Melody Calls:
I tried to do this video right before I made Dry The Rain, and I wasn't good enough to make it work. Very straight forward romantic video that summarizes the story of Kare Kano in an exquisite 3 minute pop song. Relies heavily on lyric synch and straight forward editing.

First verse: Focuses on her struggles. Maybe she likes him?
First Chorus: They both fight
Second Verse: Focuses on his perspective. She's such a crazy bitch, but I love her man!
Second Chorus: Building Tension/"It can't work baby! It will never work! I hate you!"
Climax: Sexy Time/Happy Ending/"nevermind, I totally LOVE YOU"

10. Now And Then, Here And There with Alice In Chains' Rooster:
Now this is a damn good idea. The song fits Shu too a T, focusing on his defiant reliance in the face of a world against him. A slow drudging drama with violent choruses, and ending in a triumphant moment of rebellion where the evil dude gets his shit beat in by Shu with a wooden stick. Basically uses every thematic element that NTHT has to offer, and gets to take its time, really letting the emotions hit home. It could start out with Shu, beaten and bloody, trying to crawl his way out of that dirt hole. Could also alternate perspectives with the solider who's having 2nd thoughts. Intertwine Shu's struggle and resilience, with Soldier Dude's dawning realization that he's on the wrong path, using examples of the town being massacred, and Shu trying to break the girl out of capture. The whole thing would fit like a glove. During the "yeeeeeeah here come the rooster" with the pounding drums, show either extreme close-ups of emotional faces, or extreme wide shots of army's marching to death, or panning shots of bodies under blankets. The lyrics give you a perfect blueprint to dance on. this could be a definitive NTHT video.

I'll take a number 6 please! That one would be hilariously awesome  except I would probably butcher it... maybe when I relocate and settle down, I may try obtain the source footage and give it a shot.

Granted, your other choices don't appeal to me only because I either haven't seen the anime or heard the song

Jesus these are popular songs! I'm Afraid of Americans was an MTV hit! Do you really not know Helter Skelter? Rooster is Alice in Chain's biggest song. Biggest song from one of the biggest bands of the 90s. You've never heard it?

As I said, it was either the anime OR the song, that I either hadn't seen OR heard  The majority of it is just anime I haven't seen, but stuff like Bjork... yuck

I always wanted to see more spoken word stuff. A comedians routine pops into mind at first, and I've seen the rare attempt to use those in short AMV Hell like segments, but I mean something more like this. At the moment I can only think of one vid even remotely like that, doki's animated inspirational poster (which I really like despite the dismissive name I've given it). I've taken a look at some Bobby Gaylor stuff before; however, I'm lazy so I'll never get around to doing that. Maybe someone else can?

Beo's old, he means back when the DID show music :) and I'm hoping he's not referring to TRL, pretty much their last show with actual music (if you call pop actual music) but it was all Brittany Spears, Jessica Simpson and fangirl cheeze. That was back in the late '90s... maybe as late as 2002 or so? The main station only shows reality shows now featuring pop/ rap artists with clips of their songs. Sort of dodged the heat from copyright agents on that one. We do have MTV2, it's MOSTLY reality shows, reruns from the main station, but it's a cable station so it has a few more libertys when it comes to real music. But still, it's not much better :/.
VH1 is another music station. Don't watch it much lol. But they actually have better programing than MTV!! Tons of reality shows and countdowns, mostly countdowns :/, but they show the ENTIRE video (and this is mostly 90's music) at least 30% of the time. They have shows like (Weird) AlTV too.
BET is, sadly, the only place in America you can find anything that RESEMBLES real music videos. They only play the Black 'ghetto' music (ie rap/ blues/ r&b) though.

Beo's gotta be about my age so :/ I may know what he's talking about lol but not by name :/
