Does it just have to be a song with a really high tempo, or does the melody also have to be fast-moving? And can you give us a BPM range?

I saw that title and was like *licks lips* and I started flicking through my collection... then to my horror and absolute dismay, "preferably techno"

I cried for an hour.

techno = bad (most of the time)
thrash metal = good

What about trance, jungle, synthpop, eurobeat...?

Not that trance and synthpop are particularly fast, of course. But all the jungle/DnB I've heard has been over about 160 BPM, and eurobeat loves to use really fast synthesizer riffs.

Speed metal and thrash metal are gonna give you the speed you need.

But if it's the true undeniably high BPMs that you desire, you have to find some speedcore. DJ Noisekick is one of the artists names I remember. Songs where the BPMs go into the 600-1000 range. :)
Life's short.
