When I was an OP, things were very different. We weren't banning regulars and old friends. SP Panda was guilty of the same things. Would you ban him for it, if he showed up? Apparently so. Which is the problem. There's no community anymore. Just a bunch of dick mods

SpPanda has been banned for awhile, so absolutely.

There is still a community. Many of the editors that have posted in this thread I have personally met and talk to on a regular basis. Your community, however, is gone. Deal.

The general consensus outside of #AMV is that the org needs to change, but nobody is quite sure how to do it. As long as that's the case, I'd imagine the bitching is going to continue

Just because people are quiet about it doesn't mean it's not there. Even AD agrees that things are done very weird these days.
