Can we get "Planet Wacken" and "Moshpit Ethics", then? :D
Kai Stromler wrote:For the record, there are some factual inaccuracies and omissions in the above. Bathory's third record is Under the Sign of the Black Mark (really should have double-checked that one, no idea where the other title came from), and their selftitled disc came out in 1984, not 1986. It should be more clear that Chuck Schuldiner's band was Death, and that Slaughter of the Soul was not At The Gates' debut. There is also a lot of stuff omitted, mostly because I didn't feel like opening the industrial/darkwave can of worms. Other metalheads will be able to find and illuminate other omissions or shortcomings.
If you'll give me a diff, I can make any corrections.

Very interesting read all around. I think I'm going to be reading that several more times, and possibly taking notes or diagramming.
I vote Planet Wacken.

Since we have a total of two votes for this one, I wote it first; since the last one was pretty much tl; dr, and this one follows strongly in its footsteps, it's linked here. Since Tono requested the essay, he hopefully won't mind that I put it on his server. (I should get off my lazy ass and get my own website sometime...maybe once I get back to the US.)

Only about 3900 words this time, so still long, but shorter.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
CHOPWORK - abominations of maceration
skywide, armspread : forward, upward
Coelem - Tenebral Presence single now freely available

Nah, it's no problem. Glad to host it.

And can I applaud the article? It was another good one. I'll probably print this one out to force on to some friends and teachers of mine.

I think that one went over "Moshpit Ethics" pretty well in "as catharsis".

"What does a song have to have for you to like it?"

Guitar. electric or acoustic it doesn't matter as long as it has cool melodies. 8-)

12-minute keyboard solos.

and stop biting each others' heads off if you don't like the same music. There's 9 billion people on the planet, which just means that every single one of us is part of a minority. In other words, at least 50% of the world thinks that you're wrong. Don't waste your breath on pointless arguments.

Who are you referring to? If I've offended anyone by criticizing there music, then they must have doubts about it except with that one comment I made about metal being all anger music and I apologies for that. I've said it once, and I'll say it again.. No one can offend me when they make fun of the music I enjoy and I find it funny that it's so easy to offend people when I make fun of there music. Tell me what I said that made you mad, and how I'm wrong about it.. and I'll listen. I can take criticism.

Wow so quick to the defensive..... take it easy there.

Besides, everyone knows metal is indeed just a bunch of anger music...with the occasional dragon.

It is known /w\>¯</w\

Oh how convenient. A theory about God that doesn't require looking through a telescope.

I'm not offended nor am I angry. Sorry if I sounded that way. I also wasn't talking specifically about you. I just don't like arguments that lead nowhere.

I bid you listen a little more carefully to the lyrics. Read through this before jumping to conclusions. Iron Maiden, good old fashioned Heavy Metal.

Anger music is Thrash Metal and the occasional dragon (or templar or Tolkien character or other epic quotation) is Power Metal.

I don't intend to contrtadict myself by starting an argument that I said was useless. I just want to ask you not to jump to generalizing conclusions. There's many different kinds of metal and the main difference between them is exactly the contents of the lyrics.

One thing you need to learn about Shadow is that he's usually either kidding or being sarcastic. Another is that he's a huge power metal fan.

More like 6.5 billion. You fail. We probably won't have 9 billion people for another twenty years.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.
