Pretty sweet, even though you can't really see the most impressive part, the constant two-footed double-bass. Double beaters and chain systems are cheating -- this isn't. It's one of those little often-overlooked things that makes metal drumming, and especially extreme metal where you're constantly churning blast beats, a lot more physically demanding than people may realize.

Yea thats why I dont drum, I wanted to but I injured my knee skiing when I was a kid so I cant move my legs very fast. So I wanted a bass and my mom said no and bought me a guitar... I bought myself a bass a few months later

But more on topic: drumming is very physically demanding and if you cant keep a decently constant rhythm, drumming is not for you.

Kai: how is a double-pedal cheating? You still have to whale on the damn thing to get it to sound any good, not to mention making adjustments is harder because the two pedals are linked in several ways. Unless you're using triggers and just really lightly tapping, in which case it would be the triggers that are letting you cheat. :p
Or are you referring to the difficulty in tuning two bass drums to sound similar enough that listeners won't hear two different drums making up one blast beat?

For the record, I can't do blast beats at all, my left foot just isn't up to it, and that's even at slower speeds. This is why I don't play metal.

Something I read in an interview with Tony Laureano (ex-Nile) is that he doesn't consider triggers on the kicks cheating, since if you're halfway through a set, the kicks won't be even AT ALL. And even then, it's tough to get the drums to sound even over a PA because it's very difficult to tune them exactly the same and also because it sounds like ass at high speeds later on in the set when the drummer starts getting tired, so that's why a lot of extreme metal drummers trigger their kicks. Triggering the whole kit, on the other hand, he said is a different matter because he says it sounds "lifeless"

Thanks for the link, I haven't read much of the technical/professional side of metal drumming so that was pretty interesting.

Has anyone else heard of a double-kick setup that uses one pedal to operate two beaters? I guess the downstroke triggers one beater, and raising your foot back up triggers the other. Appropriate almost strictly for blast-beat type incessant double kicking, I would imagine.

Also, re the video: I love me some VDrums too. Any way to be able to practice without pissing off your entire apartment complex is okay by me.
