If we were talking about genuine,non manufactured bands,"new metal" would be appropriate."Nu-metal" is derisive.You could compare the term nu-metal to marketing people calling a new cleaning product "Nu-Shine"-an obvious,unoriginal,annoying gimmick,which typically defines nu-metal to most people.

Much fun. I've given up ranting about that genre, because IMO those who like it have very little breadth of music experience (i.e. they probably haven't listened to more than a dozen bands total) and really don't have very solid reasons to argue with.
