Otherwise it makes no sense to me to have "blind judging" if we can just pop on here and see which person made which video. it would be not very different than writing
"Fall_Child42's - Ballad of the midboss" in text right before the video played.
So the notion that the pro DVDS are sent out with the ambition that there is anonymous and blind judging strongly implies that the video not be released beforehand.
This argument has cropped up before as well. The simple answer is that the blinding is done in an attempt to
help those contestants who want to fairly judge the submissions. Honestly, if someone wanted to "cheat" there's very little we could do to detect it; editors could privately tell other editors which videos were theirs, and ask them to vote for 'em. Fortunately, this mostly hasn't happened, and only a few votes are ever involved.
For people wanting to fairly judge the contest, though, having the names listed before the video on the judging discs or announced where they might stumble across the listings becomes an avoidable, but inconvenient bias. I know if I see a video come up labeled "by Hsien Lee" I have high expectations before the first frame, rather than some other editor I haven't heard of.
In short; we don't limit it to premiers; that way the maximum number of editors can compete, and the entries are blinded as a convenience to fair judging, not intended as a puzzle to circumvent.
