Sorry, I haven't been receiving notifications in this thread or I'd have answered sooner. Thank you, Joe, for bringing this to my attention.

I am not aware of any time during my tenure I've ever awarded a best "non-anime"... in this case I automatically translated it into "Best Live Action" as is my usual habit... but I didn't realize there were only 2 live action videos when I did that. I'm sorry for that... I will go ahead with voting and awarding that category, since I didn't catch it until now.

As for best "non-anime", I find the award an insult to any animation not made in Japan. I award "Best Live Action" because, as anyone who edits live action will tell you, it's a different skill. Things you do with animation don't necessarily work when editing live action, and vice versa. There's nothing different about editing animation made in Australia than animation made in America or in Japan, thus such videos just compete for more traditional categories.

I hope this explains my position on the matter. I'm sorry if it comes as a disappointment to some.

How is it an insult by honoring it with a category? You seemed to be PERFECTLY fine doing that for My Little Pony for SEVERAL years? I find it insulting you would even SAY that after doing THAT! I would also like to point out that there were more "non-anime" videos than there were romance videos...

This is true, but CG, a type of animation, tends to function editing wise to be a lot like live action as you can't do things you can do with flat animation. Honestly sometimes it's harder than live action because the amount of movement and detail the animators put in to CG animation...

While that's true on paper, it doesn't mean all editors tend to put those into the same categories sadly...

Nevermind got my numbers mixed up. lol

I really liked the last video #144. I didn't see the studio ID because I stopped it the first time when I played it through when the video ended.

Damn.

Anyways my nominations are now finished too.
No matter what, stay calm, stay cool and live life to the fullest.
Plus as Gene would say always go big in life.

I don't know any reason why someone wouldn't vote a drama into the drama category, or action into action, or... well, you get my point.

And as for MLP... I liked the name of the award, so sue me.

We had it last year, and its listed on the AWA website 2013 awards.

Best Non-Anime
Katie's Web Sight!! Productions - Silent Movies - Elliot Smith - Can't Make a Sound - Hugo

To be fair though, I think the other times I participated we just had Best Live Action, without even a nomination for best non-anime. *edit Ohhhhh but clicking the link to see the award thing, its printed off as Best Live Action, so maybe thats where I'm mistaken.

Either way though, thanks for the answer.
