Anyone have a rough idea when finalists will be posted? Just curious -so im not checking the forums every single day to find out it will be in like 8 days instead of 2- lol.

Typically the results come out within a week of con so give it 10-12 days before panicking.
It could happen sooner but don't put money on it.

Rather than hope for 1st place, im hoping more for it to just be along the top as proof that im off to a good start and that ppl really did enjoy my video enough to rank it lol. Since ive finally gotten my hands on hardcore editing software, i can finally make real vids instead of ones i made as a kid.

I remember those days with "The Vegita Shuffle". Won me a medallion. It's just a left-over fish tournament trophy with a sticker on the other side, but it was my first serious effort with better software and no knowledge. Unlike now where I have same software and just a bit of knowledge!

You do know that people have made award-winning videos with Windows Movie Maker and that "Euphoria" was made using a $50 editor and MS Paintbrush, right?

Sure, but I bet there are few carpenters who'd RATHER work with a dull saw, bent nails and lousy wood - though a truly skilled one could probably still make something beautiful.

I started out in this using TMPGEnc for all editing - Vegas is SO much easier to work with.

To weigh in on this: the act of learning to use a higher end editing system has the potential to make one a better editor in and of itself. Sure, you can make something great with Windows Movie Maker, but not being able to adjust clips by less than seven frames, for instance, can hamper one's learning opportunities. Sure, it's all about practice, but you practicing with better tools should help.

Now, to switch the topic to something weighing more on my mind: to reiterate, can we start panicking now?
