Why not mix a couple of the ideas said here?
Someone had mentioned making a video using only 1 episode (Anneke I believe). AtomX had mentioned something that would have audience interaction.
So why not both? Gather Audience. Show them a list of anime in which you will show 1 episode (chosen by the amount of relavent material in the episode) and give them a song. Have someone up front with Premiere and whichever episode they choose.
Before the episode is played, hand out a paper and a small golf pencil. Play the pre-determined song. Tell them as they listen to the song, to jot down certain parts of the song they think they should either 'time' or be relavent to the chosen anime.
Show the episode. As they watch the episode, tell them to match up what they see to the stuff they wrote.
Then, essentially, make a video. Ask the audience what part they should use. Get suggestions and whatnot. Create a video for the audience, by the audience.
Not only would they get their hands wet in the creative part of AMV making, but I'm sure that could fill up a nice 1-2 hour block easily.
Or not. I dunno. Me tired. Good luck.

I think that he means a contest that uses the "judge by numbers" thing. Think... Olympic judging. At least, that's what I got out of it. That might be interesting. Though, you'd have a large flow of videos for that one.MCWagner wrote:Not sure what you mean... we've already got two classic contests...Tyler_yj wrote:Why not just a classic contest with a general classement, without categories ?

Interesting, but that's more of an event than a contest. I should've been clearer at what I was aiming for... I'm aiming for some contest that could fill the hour-long block in Main we have for AMV awards. That an audience could watch an hour of and not be bored by, and that could be pre-prepared to a specific length so we stayed under time. Your event here would take longer than an hour, and we couldn't do it in main, because of tech restrictions.ANTDrakko wrote:So why not both? Gather Audience. I'm really drawing blanks here

that is to say, only unsigned and non-major record label artists could be used.
no wait, that sounds like an "Indie" project. Yick

I kinda like the idea of the unsigned music contest... but the problem with that is that some unsigned artists are unsigned for a reason.
I wouldn't want the audience's ears to bleed for an hour and I'd be worried that without any songs people knew they might get bored. I wouldn't cause I love all types of music and especially like hearing new good music but I think alot of people are uncomfortable or (worse) bored by music they don't know. Which is really sad and depressing but yeah it happens.

Yeah, that is one of the problems I was thinking of. I kind of see it as maybe shooting some new blood into the community as far as music possibilities go. There's also the fact it wold be a contest catering more to cities and larger towns that actually have music scenes. I'd imagine the video would have to have the info to contact the artist for cds or somethin at the end.Lord Rae wrote:I kinda like the idea of the unsigned music contest... but the problem with that is that some unsigned artists are unsigned for a reason.![]()

Then again I already have a video idea to a pretty good unsigned artist so my contest idea may be somewhat self-serving

Ok here is an Idea that I have come up with its kinda complex but I think we can do it.
1) Make a list of songs and a list of animes (non-adult). (There are a few ways to do this, Have the creators do the lists or put up a website where anyone can suggest them. etc...)
2) Have a computer randomly pick a song and an anime (non-adult) not using either one more than once.
3) After the computer spits out its song and anime then the creators are given the song and anime they must use. The majority of the AMV must use the anime given with some allowence for filler footage (ie not more than 20% of the overall length). Any version of the song is allowed as long as it is family friendly.
4) Have the videos pre-judged for what would be best to compeate.
5) show the videos at the con and have the audience vote among the pre-judged to pick the audience favorite. Then show the Judges favorite and announce the audience favorite.
