To be fair though, this year didn't seem bad. There were still some unforgivables, but I was greatly encouraged that there was improvement overall. Last year... ...we shall not discuss. ("SQUENIIIIXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!" [snarl])

If it's someone who has been around and should know better, then yes, they are being lazy, but we can't even pretend to know how much another person understands about the process. To us, it seems simple, to someone who doesn't know, it can be completely confusing. I, for one, remember being overwhelmed by all of what I considered technical mumbojumbo ("Interlacing? Aspect ratio? the hell is that?!"), but I only even knew I was doing something wrong after it was pointed out to me. I just simply didn't know any better, I didn't have an eye for picking out things like that. If you did when you were starting out, good for you! You had a better start than a lot of us.

That being said, I do agree with cutting videos that don't stand up to the quality standards. If you did something wrong, learn how to fix it. I see a lot of people posting in contest threads when they have videos disqualified for the technical aspect of it, so there is an obvious willingness to learn how to correct it. I have seen a few contest rules that link to the guides here and I think that is an awesome idea that I'd like to see more often. Just add a little link to the DQ e-mail. "Your video was disqualified due to _____. Here is a guide that can help you fix the problem so that you can resubmit."* It'll help them help themselves and keep the quality of the contest higher.

*I'm actually not sure if some coordinators already do this. I've never had a video DQ'd because of a technical aspect...>_>

There are pros and cons to almost any facet of how contests or amv programming are run but there is one thing we can all agree on at least.

I think we should create a secret society that meets deep in the bowels of the Earth whose members do nothing but judge AMVs for contests... In between they can put their minds together and work on world domination or else eliminate all those that argue the judges results.... and if you want, Xstylus, you can be the societies minister of quality control as you'll get to torture those that get out of line... Oh, and all members can also wear those cool anime hats too and Rider4Z can be the appointed social coordinator… so there |:>

..note to self ...don't deviate off topic or else... :uhoh:

I'm sure the indoctrination will involve yaoi paddles and a marathon session of LinkinBallz vid watching.
