eh.... I personally think it was more suited in Comedy betcause the video itself felt to me like it was taking a silly comedic aproach to the romace between the 2, not a serious one. Such features like the cupid with sailormoons face on it as an example.... It was constructed as a humerous aproach to it. Don't get me wrong, I actually liked the video, and felt it was edited good, but I felt it should have been in comedy given the kind of aproach taken with the video.

Anyway, I'm not realy disapointed anymore, At first I thought it was a little unfair but kinda funny at the same time to loose to a comedy video, but now I don't realy care about it anymore, it was all for fun anyway ;p

congrats to all the winners in this contest btw, I don't think I said that yet.

Edit: For the record, I don;t think the creator intentionally miscategorized the video for a better chance at winning, I'm not accusing him/her of that. The video is not even completely miscategorized, It *could* also work as a romance, I just think comedy is the better category for it.

I couldn't agree with u more. I loved the real "Ninjas" AMV, but i am glad the "Wizard of Osaka" won.

I agree. I'm a huge Yuri fan so I would never discount something as being not a romance because it's between 2 girls, but this video was done to an upbeat intentionally silly kind of song and seemed intended to make people laugh more than to make them feel squishy and think "Ahh, that's so sweet." So what do you do with a rythmic upbeat romantic comical video? Some videos are just really hard to classify.

I will say, though, that fans prefer comedy over seriousness; that's the reason there are separate categories in the first place. Back when there were no categories, the comedy videos won twice as often as any other type. I think the current contest categories are arranged in the order they're in for a reason: save the best for last. Each category is more commonly enjoyed than the one before it, except maybe Romance and Serious which are probably about the same. So, putting a video in an earlier category gives it a slight advantage, whereas putting it in a later category gives it a disadvantage (Watch Me Shine anyone?).

PS: When I was running around trying to find videos to download and create a contest screener to keep, I noticed Sailor Love Story had been entered under Comedy at another convention

I believe from what I heard that would have been AnimeNext. AnimeNext doesn't have a 'Romance' category, so it was entered into Comedy instead.

Why is it that for Comedy AMVs so few people make actual AMVs anymore as opposed to the whole switching from song to song and topic to topic (ex. AMV Hell). These are good every once in a while but in the end they leave a lot of viewers pissed off, I for one get annoyed when I hear a song that fits the anime perfectly and then five seconds later it switches to a different song. It just seems kind of like the lazy way out because you don't have to come up with a definite theme or plotline to the vid.

You're right, I think it was AnimeNEXT. That explains that, then. :)

This was something I was a bit concerned with after last year and was interested to see whether or not it happened this year- and was proven right with a number of the entries into Comedy (not just those that made it in) being of the 'blipvert' variety of comedy videos. AMV Hell completely blew away the competition last year, and I figured people would take note of that and we'd see an up-surge of them this year. Kind of like trailers, few people did them initially and then as more people saw them and they did well others realized, "Hey, I can do that too!" and started making more of them. I would guess that if the trend in the increasing number of BlipVert videos continues that they will, like trailers, end up with their own category at a number of contests.

I personally have really enjoyed a number of these types of videos- Real Ninjas definitely had some great moments in it (Gara's Theme was one of the most delightfully wrong things I've seen in a while), and I've thoroughly enjoyed both AMV Hell 1 & 2 and am a part of the AMV Hell 3- but honestly I'd much prefer seeing solid concept comedy videos that carry through over a full song instead of relying on short rapid-fire funny segments.

Anyone know when we'll find out what the 2nd, 3rd, and fourth place winners at Otakon were?

AuN listed the runners-up here:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 573#738573

But usually they don't announce anything past the runners-up (2nd place).

You could always ask Antonio how your video fared. He should be making an official announcement here sometime soon anyway...

I guess I came off the wrong way. The thing that got me about the crowd reaction was the laugh once Usagi came on screen. That rubbed me the wrong way a little bit - I took it as "Hey, two girls in love - that's funny!" Personally, I felt the video could have been categorized as Upbeat, too (IMHO, any DDR song should automatically fall into Upbeat :P ).

I didn't know the video had competed in Comedy at AnimeNext. I guess what I'm saying was it was neat to see a shoujo ai video in Romance. Truth be told, I voted for Something Better - I'm a big fan of FLCL Romance vids.
