I've never liked the way Otakon chooses it's finalists, but then again if you enter into the contest that if what you accept and so there really is nothing to complain about...

Good luck to everyone who did make it and sorry (or not I sure) that I missed out entering after 4 years.... I won't be able to give DW a run for his money so I hope the other 4 videos do just that

I got the privilege of seeing some of the videos outside of one of the showings and there are no bad videos on the finalist list.

Taste is subjective so nobody will agree 100% with any list of the best videos from each category. As long as it is well rounded and represent a good gage of the best videos

Get a fuggin' life already. If you aren't doing videos for fun then go the hell away because you spoil everyone else's fun. There is no need to whine and complain. As Trythil's banner points out, it is a HOBBY.

And this annoys me because this is becomming common be it Otakon or Awa Pro (last year the 'I didn't make it' complaints were much like this) or any of the other big contests.

Can we please simply accept the contest results and move on? None of the coordinators I know of do anything to fix anything. I can say I try my damndest with contests to not have it be exclusively my opinion on what makes the cuts. And I handle much smaller contests than these. Most of the contests out there are rather fair. root for your favorites and love the video you thought was good and won but was not your favorite.

Wow, I would hate to be a finalist right now.

Seriously people, what is your problem? Every one of the people on the list worked hard to make good videos. They got in. I'm sorry that other videos which you make think are "better" didn't. That's a shame. Go to the overflow room. What right do you have to come in here and make people feel bad because their video got in and yours didn't? Some people have been trying for *years* to get into the finals and don't make it. Do you seem them here with the mob mentality of "This better not be the full list whine whine cry cry." Go away. Honestly. No one really cares. This isn't your contest. Why don't you start your own contest where all the videos that you think are so good make the finals? That'll be something that I'll make sure not to watch.

Congratulations to the finalists. You all truly deserve it.

Guys, consider how hard the AMV staff tried to drop the ball this year and just be thankful you're not getting your swag bag on Thursday night with a note that says "Ballots will be available on Friday night."

As far as the list itself is concerned - it seems to be 70% "famous" editors that I recognize and 30% names I don't, which reminds me very much of Otakon '03 (And remember, I was a finalist that year and part of the 30% - if any of that 30% happen to read this, enjoy mixing it up with the 70%, some of the coolest people I met were in line waiting for the contest that year).

To me this is a good thing and is probably as it should be, and I make this comment knowing that StB and maybe even one or two other editors are going to play the "OMG ELITIST IVORY TOWER" card like it was the Chewbacca Defense. Otakon is supposed to be one of the best AMV contests in the country (I say 'supposed to be' because there's probably valid debate as to whether or not it still is), and so it should be a representation of both the best editors already out there as well as new blood with great potential. This list looks like it has accomplished that, so all appears to be well.

Congrats to those who made it, and those who didn't shouldn't be bitter at all - Around 77% of the entries didn't make it this year, as opposed to about 83% in '03 and even more in '04. Your vids will still be seen by the AMV Screening Room, which will still draw you a bigger audience than most conventions' contests would. Now to wait until the winners are announced so people can whine about *those*...

Am I the only one who's NOT had any major gripes so far with how the contest has been run this year? What has the staff done wrong so far?

While this staff is certainly a few steps up from Beebe, they're still for the most part completely inaccessable. Since Pyson retired I think the Otakon AMV Contest Head has posted to this forum an average of 3 times a year. Not good.
