And yeah, I did send out messages to people to send in their old videos. And I seem to remember certain responses along the lines of "Well, if I make a video just for this con and it doesn't make it into the finals due a monkey ton of old videos that have been out for well over a year now...well, that kinda sucks."
EXACTLY. Was I nice and sweet while trying to prove this? Hell no. I hope that everyone who loses to/couldn't make it into the contest due to "Hello Fairy" or any other old videos starts to think twice about the "Well, i likez mah video...imma send it summore!"
I'm not telling everyone to "plaayyy faaaiiirr guuuyyysss =<"
Fuck, I don't play fair by any standards. Ask people I play TF2 with, camping is fun

But for anyone who actually gives a shit about the contest and AMVs in general, looking at the finalists and saying "Oh hey...I saw that last year...actually...well over a year ago. It was ok but why are they still sending it to more cons when it's hella old? Wouldn't cha think that after a year and a half they'd have something new to send in? Guess not :/"
If all else fails, screw the audience. I hate the public, but what the hell ever happened to standards? You can go around claiming that the audience will come stare and cheer for a giant smelly dog turd if they haven't seen it previously but what about those who actually give a shit about the shit?
Love my analogy don't ya?
I completely agree with your idea, just not your method. By encouraging people to send old vids to show that the rule should be changed, you're just doing the same thing to the contest that you don't like about it. Personally, I haven't seen many contest coordinators who completely disregard feedback, especially when properly presented. Vlad brought up some really good points and I know you have many of your own. Maybe talk to them about it when you're at AX?
I suppose I fall into the "give a shit about the shit" category. I'm x2'ing what Ileia said, being that I agree with the idea, but I feel this whole method is self-destructive. Given it's been already been said that this point has been brought up last year, but fell on deaf ears, what if worst comes to worse (and I'm betting on this being the case) that this method of bringing up this concern, in this self-destructive fashion, to the powers at be at AX, ends up falling on deaf ears
again? It's like "risk big, get back jack-shit" for the "give a shit about the shit" crowd.
I guess I'm addressing this (the issue of old videos, not the method of hoping to "fix" it itself) because, to put a long story short bluntly, AX and this contest hold a personal place in me. I got interested in AMV's cause of AX, got turned on into making my own videos cause of AX, and I look forward to seeing the fruits of my labor
because of AX. While I can't say "if this were not the case, maybe I'd get in!" because truthfully, I myself can't be the judge to the quality of my videos, but due to this issue and other issues, I can't help feel that those who have any slightest-bit of emotional attachment to go along with this contest get hit hardest when things such as these are currently ignored.
Anyone can then argue this is a case of "you love her (AX) but she doesn't love you back, so let it go and don't get so worked up about it anymore." Given it's naturally hard to let go of your first crush, but in the end despite how difficult it will be I'll agree and say "you're right, I should move on."
Maybe it's time I moved on.
