This was the first major con I've been to, and I've gotta say that the amv contest was freakin sweet. Giving all the editors unique badges and allowing us the front rows to use was a really nice touch.
About the minor hiccups of video playback. I think the source of the problem was primarily due to your video playing program, vlc. I freakin hate vlc and think it should be banned like chewing gum in Singapore.
I would recommend media player classic with the Combined Community Codec Pack:

I would try that out and see if that works better for the competition. I'm sure the skipping, blocks, and the tearing are a result of VLC sucking it up.

Oh really, I wished I could have gone to the contest!! Why do I have to live so far from the US? ;__;
Either way, our Studio entered a MEP 'Broken Inside', I was told we made it into the finals. Did anyone see it? God, I am dying to learn how it went
