Cat soup.... hmmm... was that the one where is had this woman get choped apart, fly around the room, then put back together by the wizard guy? If so, that video got cut from the overflows for being too gory.
I was very upset that the video wasn't shown in some capacity at Otakon. It made a very strong impression on me at the prescreenings. I thought the video was very well made and suited the music very well. The woman chopped in half was very disturbing, but objectively I don't think the violence was any more graphic than, say, the X video that did get shown in the contest.
I remember Geoff proclaiming that there was no way the video would be shown in any form at the contest. I feel very strongly (and indicated on my prescreening ballot) that something of that quality deserved to be shown somehow, even if at a separate screening late at night. That would have held Geoff more accountable because a lot more people could have seen the video and judged for themselves if it was too extreme or not.
Can you at least publish the name of the creator?
I couldn't find the video by it's series in the list of submissions. Is there a Japanese name for Cat Soup or something that may have been used?
Or if you could remember the music or title of the video that might help.

I know a number of people were unhappy with a number of things that happened involving the contest, and a few were my fault (like the Finalist announcment screwup was me in a hurry to get it out, so I missed a name).
What it comes down to is you guys ARE the contest, and it really is for you guys. The contest is also a major event now, up there with the cosplay and the concert (it draws members). So if you have something to say, then please do.
It seems that you really did a lot to help and hold the contest together. I appreciate that (as I'm sure all of the other AMV creators do too.)
Unfortunatly I couldn't make it to the feedback session, but as a long time regular of Otakon's contest (this is my 5th consecutive year) and with Otakon being my favorite con I'm not thrilled with the way the AMV contest was handled in it's first year without Matt Pyson (the contest was perfect every year he was at the helm.) I think I will take your suggestion of contactin the programming coordinator and providing some feedback.
Thanks.
Well personally I want the contest to be as close to how Matt left it as possible because like you said, things worked well.
Without going to into detail about what all went on (because I just don't want to piss anyone off by saying something they might not like.... i.e.: the truth) but the main issue that caused problems was the lack of communication with Geoff.
Patrick was actually quite easy to get a hold of considering what all he had going on like dealing with other contests and what not (Thank Patrick, because without him the contest really would not have happened).
I actually got disgusted a few times with how things were being handled by Geoff.
With that said, I was responsible for my own screw ups (the finalist posting missing a name, and a spelling error during the prescreenings) so what ever Geoff did wrong I can't totally condemn him since I made my own mistakes along the way (regardless of how insignificant they may seem to some).
So yes, please let your opinions be known. If I did anything wrong let me know too. I have no problem with admitting when I am wrong or I messed something up.
Assuming I am involved in the contest at all come next year, I want to do whatever I can to fix whatever issues arose this year.
Also if anyone has any specific questions about specific things relating to the contest (concerns, thought, etc) go ahead and post it, or email me or something. I like to keep all you guys informed about the workings of the contest as much as possible, since you all ARE the contest.
