If the video was not made public then it is good in my book, but often a video that doesn't make pro can be shown in the overflow / during the con at AWA... does this count?

No, that does not, since overflow playlists often aren't published and therefore are difficult for us to track.

Full disclosure though, in this rare case we did manage to obtain the AWA overflow playlist, and we do have data indicating that the vid in question did indeed show in the overflow track, albeit it was past midnight to an audience of maybe ten people. But again, we do not count overflow exhibitions since, going by the spirit of the rules, it would be sad and unfair to call that a debut.

I agree an overflow showing isn't like it being posted on youtube

I prefer an award limit over premiere date. It's more difficult to regulate and relies a lot on the honor system, but anyone caught can be publicly ostracized :ying: But I mean come on, editors know when a video has earned its fair share of air time and awards.
I personally do not like award limits as it does nothing to curb videos seeing tons of play time. I know of a lot of videos that make the finals in tons of contests all the time and many people see it but win nothing.

and that itself can be hard to police as there are 1000s of AMV contest, some that do not even publish winners on the org anymore so that can be just as hard to police..

All I am saying is, there is no bullet proof method of validating restrictions such as freshness or awards restriction rules... I like the freshness rules as they do not limit how many contests you can win at, but more how new your video is when it is played in the contest your running.. In the end I not saying one is more better then the other, just my point of view on it

Huh... and here I thought freshness rules meant shown at all in public. Guess some rules are more equal than others.

I think you missed the whole point of the conversation...

It was confirmed the video did not win anything so it was not played in the awards show. There is an overflow block, but only a small portion of the video are played so there is no guarantee that that particular video was even played. Hence the Editor was given the benefit of the doubt.

If we only had someone on the inside with that information or if the application used to play the videos had a log function that recorded what played all weekend. Such a shame.

As I mentioned in a prior message, there was, and we did, and we in fact found out that the video in question did indeed play in a buried timeslot in the overflow block.

Doesn't matter.

That info is irrelevant unless such info is available from every event, not just an event that we have insider access to. A rule is only fair if it is enforced in an equally uniform and consistent manner. Therefore, entries that aren't exhibited in the finals of the contest itself are considered to have not participated in the contest.

I could amend the rules to clarify that more explicitly, but then I get complaints about them being wordy and lawyeresque.
