The rules say June 1st, and honestly I would like to have it by then if at all possible. One thing you could do is to mail your form early then get FTP access and upload later if need be. I'll simply put the form into a folder once I get it and then wait until I have a video to go with it before it's fully processed.

The latest I can possibly accept submission forms for FTP entries (just the physical paper forms) is June 8th. Any later than that and the entry will have to be DQ'd from competing.
You see the pre-screening is actually going to be on the weekend of the 9th. I'll need to have the signed submission forms by then or we simply will not be able to show the video at the pre-screening. No pre-screening means no review, and no possibility of being a finalist.
I'll also be announcing the finalists shortly after the pre-screening in order to make our printing deadline for ballots this year.

Between the convention being moved up, and the deadline being pushed back, things are incredibly tight this year. Once June 1st is here things need to happen rather quickly.

is there a legit reason why submission forms have to be mailed rather than something like a text file included with the video? As far as I know, Otakon is the only con left that still does this for internet submissions. It may even be hampering some of our lazier editors from bothering to submit at all.... (especially after the credibility of the contest went down a bit from the trouble that happened a few years back...)

In any case, I'm currently editing a video specifically for this contest, but I'm cutting it close, I highly doubt I will finish in time for the video to be mailed. I can just send the form out to you now to ensure you get it and submit via FTP as close as I get to finishing before the actual deadline right?

Our lawyer requires us to have signatures for every video (giving us permission to show the entry, etc). That much I know for sure. Why we have to have the original signed copy over say... a scanned and emailed copy, I do not entirely know. If we were allowed to do it, I for one would not mind receiving a digital form that had to be printed. It would make the entire process that much easier.
This is something I wanted to bring up this year, however with our entire internet framework being moved to new servers (and then getting everything caught up) it wasn't really a top priority.
My staff and I have already begun talking about a few things we can do to improve next years contest (for example, increasing the submission limit per person), so this will go into that list.

And yes, by all means feel free to send your form now, or even request FTP access now. It usually takes me anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to reply with the info for uploading (if I'm at the computer I'll be able to reply fast, if I'm at work or out then obviously it'll have to wait until I get home). This way you can have everything in place and you can upload at your leisure without having to wait on a reply from me with the info.

Just mailed my form off to accompany my entry. My friends all said they would kill me if I did anything to get myself disqualified.

Thanks for doing the FTP, every time I tried to transfer the file to disc, something always went wrong.

I look forward to seeing the AMVs this year. Including overflow, it's honestly one of the main reasons I go to the convention every year!

Keep up the great work, and try not to stress out too bad.

Thanks,

And I thought nobody read these.

Drama or Upbeat?

Not to be so presumptuous as to think that I might make the cut, but I can't decide between two AMVs.

Of which category do you need more entries?

I'll send one or the other off on Monday morning...

flip a coin?

Ok then how about this. The deadline for Otakon 2037 will be June 5th. that gives you 30 years, 2 weeks, 4 days. Happy editing.

Hey Billy! I don't really host it but I know what you mean... and it's no problem.

And while I'm here (as I forgot to do it earlier):
This is a reminder that the deadline for Otakon's AMV contest is now two weeks away.
Anyone interested in submitting an entry should check out the rules on the Otakon website located here: http://www.otakon.com/events_amv.asp
