Yeah, exactly what I think too... supporting budding conventions is always what I've tried to do and certainly I'll try to find a way to send off anything I can even it is on DVD... but of course, it also could mean less competition

Exactly, I don't have video out, nor do I own a VCR any more. And truthfully, if I were running a contest in which I wanted to have the screenings on VHS, I wouldn't expect all the entrants to have them either. For better or worse, requiring VHS submissions will narrow down your pool of entrants.

Except your DVD would not be accepted into the contest. All entries MUST be on VHS. No DVD, no VCD, no SVCD, no digital submissions, period.

no i wouldnt. digital really brings out what the creator was intending with the video and puttinng it on VHS would kill a lot of the best parts of it.

Sure, why not? I export my videos to a DVD-RW and watch them on my DVD player to check them anyway. my DVD player and VCR are right next to each other, and it would take literally 5 seconds to run a set of cables between them.

And there's always my H+ card, although I think I have that sitting up in my storage room somewhere :?

Nothing to prove.. it's a fact... tjhe problem I have with this prossess is that by first copying ot to VHS you loose quality.. them I assume the master tape for the contests id made by coying all the tapes to it.. another gneration loss there... so by the time it's on the big screen, that's two generation losses

To me, if a con is only willing to accept VHS submissions, that's saying something bad about either the con itself or what the AMV contest organizer(s) thinks about their participants.

Again, I rather see a little loss in video quality due to having the contest on VHS only, then to try and force a contest/convention to accept digital entries that they can't handle. How many contests have you been at where the digital submissions were handled poorly? Bad sound, interlacing, other various issues with the video...etc...

The contest should accept what they feel it can handle.
