More people should be following this! That's just how I got into making AMVs, because it was fun and I liked what I did. Other people liking them was a big bonus. Then again, other people do hate my stuff and well, that's just them.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Oh and... making AMVs isnt about winning, it's about having fun making things you like in your spare time. If you are only making amvs for the glory then you should probably stop now. The only person you need to please is yourself - anyone else is just a bonus.

What's with this assumption that "winning videos" (in this case, the final nominated videos) ALL USE AFTER EFFECTS... ? I highly doubt it's the case for all of them.
And even if they do... so what? After Effects is a tool. You use a tool to make "real" what you see in your imagination. For the most part, people that don't use After Effects (*raises hand*) simply haven't had the personal inspiration to make some vision come to life. When they do... they'll go ahead and make that vision come true. Whether it's in After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, MS Paint... you need the idea first. If your video doesn't require that type of vision... OK, fine. It's not necessary. If the video holds up on its own, it holds up on its own. Some program made by Adobe isn't going to change that; it'll only enhance what's already in your mind.
And the billionth person whining about After Effects isn't going to change that.
(For the record, I personally have never used After Effects in my life... and you don't see me whining over it.)

Funny, for mine I didn't even have to look at AfterEffectsBrakus wrote:Please indulge me...
To be an effective AMV creator and competitor, you have to know how to use AfterEffects.

I think that's because the person outright said you need AE to win awards and that is pretty much wrong. It's only normal for people to want to correct such a misconception...and it's not like any of us can say anything beyond what Ian said. That's more or less the gist of it. No point beating a dead horse...DrngdKreationz wrote:Especially since this thread has gone from " help me realize that winning isn't all that matters. " to a "you don't need after effects thread." I mean WTF is up with that?
