O9k AMV Contest ~ Win $$ =)

Over 9000 AMV Contest
Hello:) The band O9k "Over 9000" would like to host an AMV contest! The person that creates the most popular music video using one of our songs will win $50 cash (if you don't have PayPal we can arrange buying something on Amazon, etc. for you). We're starting at $50 (Canadian Dollars, I think that works out to roughly $45 USD at the moment) because we're not sure how people will react to this contest, if we have an overwhelming amount of entries we will definitely consider doubling the first prize and adding 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes! And you never know, if we make it big you get full bragging rights saying that you've produced our first "music video" =P

Our CD is expected to be released sometime this month so we would like to generate as much hype as possible! At the moment we have three decent-quality singles to choose from, but we will add more choice depending on the amount of applicants.

Contest Rules, Regulations, and everything else you need to know:
1. Do NOT include any 18+ material in the AMV.
2. Videos must display a footer in the bottom corner (as in most music videos) containing the following text (while being legible of course):
Over 9000
Song Name
http://www.o9k.ca
Video Produced by Your Name/Username
3. Videos must be uploaded to the corporate giant nobody likes** (you're also free to upload this anywhere else as well), with the title "Anime Name AMV :: Over 9000 - Song Name"
4. You may write whatever comments you like under the info box, but please include a line stating that this is a demo song by Over 9000, and include a link to our website (http://www.o9k.ca)
4. Winner will be determined by the most amount of Views your AMV has generated.
5. If there is a tie (+/- 1% views), the winner will be determined by the video that has received the best ratings, and if that is the same, the video with the most ratings (again +/- 1%). If there is still a tie we will consider giving out two "first prizes".
6. You may not tweak/edit/modify the original song, unless you first seek permission from us.
7. Currently the only songs that apply for this offer are Rise Up, Mutiny, and Hero to Zero. We will consider adding more songs to this contest or perhaps holding a new contest in the future depending on the response for our first contest.
8. You're allowed to make more than one AMV (but no more than one per song). However only your most popular video will be considered, and you cannot be considered for more than one prize if we instate a 2nd and 3rd place.
9. If you deviate from the above rules your video may be dropped from consideration without warning.
10. These rules are subject to change, if you see something glaringly missing or needs changing please reply and let me know. Thanks:)

I think that's about it. The three songs you have to choose from are:
Hero to Zero, Rise Up, and Mutiny
These can be previewed (low quality) or downloaded from http://drop.io/o9k_contest/

If you're interested about the band, please visit us at http://www.o9k.ca, or add us on Facebook at http://fb.o9k.ca (the Page is relatively new, we just moved from the Facebook Groups so we have no fans, and Facebook won't let us transfer them over. Feeling a bit lonely so add us!)

Before getting started on your video, please reply to this thread with your anime choice and song. We'd like to know how many entries we're looking at asap, so we can decide whether to raise the stakes and add more prizes. Deadline is one month from now - July 10th.

Thanks for reading, we hope to see many interesting entries. Good luck all!

p.s. Just because we're Over 9000 it doesn't mean it has to be a DBZ AMV! Inside joke that stuck:)

** We're talking about YouTube. Sorry but for the time being we're going to have to stick as planned, unless you guys can suggest something else. Reading the administrator's post, I think the major problem is concerning music copyright issues. In this case we're a band offering up our original work as your creative fodder, so I don't suppose there are any conflicts there. So until then You shall upload to the Tube. :)

surprised i'm the first to respond to this.

i'm assuming because you posted in the A-M-V.org forum to begin with that you're wanting us to use ANIME for your music video. if that's the case then a cash prize is a bad idea. we would be using copyrighted material to earn a profit. biiiiiig no-no :nono: especially if you plan on claiming it as "your first music video" ... :uhoh:

Ah. is it? I'm not paying for someone to do work for me; I'm simply providing a reward for the most skilled AMV producer. I feel that if I was paying someone to make me a video, that would definitely be copyright infringement. But this isn't a commercial project... and I've seen contests such as these before, also similar contests for fan art and such.

To be fair producing AMV's in general have a big amount of copyright issues with it, whether you are making a profit or not makes no difference to the big guys. But seeing how you're not making a business out of this, I feel that a prize is not profit, obviously it doesn't make it any more legal, but no less legal than any other competition. If it makes people feel better a "product prize" purchased for you (domain names, hosting, something from Amazon?) seems a lot less "profity" I think.

Anyway if this post is against site rules please remove; I didn't think this was a problem at all so I apologize. I still don't think its a problem though imo, so the prizes are still being offered if anybody's interested.

The post isn't against any rules as far as I know - the subject has been discussed before.

Using video and songs as we do is questionable. The questions being about 'fair use' and 'parody use' and so on.

If someone is handing us money for it, that is likely to get people who have lawyers to start ASKING those questions.

We would prefer that they simply be happy we are not making money - and enjoy the free publicity they get from AMVs.
