How long did you have to spend reading the forums before you started acting like one? Was it under 5 years? over? I'd like to know.Kionon wrote:HollyFlower91, you are wrong.
Zarxrax is responsible for one of the most commonly used encoder GUIs used in anime video editing production today.
I suggest you spend significantly more time reading the forums before you start acting like a douchebag.

Re: A Helpful Converter
Wow, I walked into that one.
My point is that you come in here, and tell established editors about a program we already know about and that has been discussed repeatedly elsewhere. Then, when this is pointed out to you, you have the audacity to question the technical abilities or hardware possession of those same editors.
A simple search would have brought up the other conversations about SUPER, and a bit more lurking in this exact same subforum would have shown Zarxrax's contributions to this community.
If you act like an ignorant yet arrogant newbie, be prepared to be treated like one. I'm a nice guy, in general, and I like helping people, but the way you treated a pillar of this community pisses me off, and you deserved to be called on it.

Re: A Helpful Converter
Actually seems like people like handbrake alot more than super, I've heard very good things about it, though I have not used it myself. (I wrote my own little app for the jobs I need to get done) but I did try super a while back, and frankly, couldn't get it to work properly, hence, among other failed apps, one of the reasons for my own app being born.
And yea, though I think Konion might be overreacting a bit to your obvious lack of knowledge concerning Zarx's technical abilites/equipment, He (Zarx) does know what hes talking about. Hes the one maintaining AMVApp right now afterall.

Handbrake and SUPER both suck. On the side, maintaining AMVApp doesn't make you know what you're doing, it makes you slightly more knowledgeable than the people using it. It still does some silly things.

Re: A Helpful Converter
I've done comparison testing with handbrake, and I would recommend against it for prepping footage. On Mac at least, Avidemux is a much better option. It is hard to effectively detelecine and not end up with ghosting with handbrake. See my Top of the Rain Revisited video, which used handbrake footage. Handbrake also pretty much ate itself when I tried to get it to work on Macross: Do You Remember Love. If you do not have access to Avisynth because of a PPC processor, I recommend Avidemux and no other.
As for my attitude, I wasn't just reacting to the posts above, but also posts elsewhere. I have this reputation for being a real elitist whenever a newbie shows up, and I think posts like my above are used to justify that view. However, it's a case of context. This is not the only thread where I feel that HollyFlower91 offered questionable advice with an air of authority, and it is not the only thread where s/he has dismissed editors that a simple day of lurking would have shown to be integral parts of the community.
Posts like the above come only when someone has really made themselves unpopular with me, and are the tiny minority of my posts in regards to new editors. My reputation, such as it is, is almost entirely undeserved. Most of my posts are helpful, and are the reason I wrote as many stickies and guides as I have. I am not anti-newbie, and I welcome new blood into the community. Just don't walk in like you own the place, take some time to learn the standards, both technical and ethical, of the community.
And I will be happy to help you.

Mine is on mirkosp. Zarx does know a lot but it's mostly related to older tech that isn't a good option to use anymore, and that's one of the main reasons so many AMV editors use ancient stuff via amvapp. Mirko is under training with some well regarded encoders, and his video knowledge, especially with avisynth and x264, is far above that of any other amv community contributor I know of.

Re: A Helpful Converter
going a litle of topic with this side note stuff, but, as a programmer myself, let me just clarify, theoretically you'd be right, but I was considering all the changes hes done with the program as a whole when I stated that, especially with the work on Zarx264gui which would require a good bit of knowledge on the whole encoding process to make it as good as it is. and of course, nothings perfect, theres some design changes to amvapp hes done that I don't agree with myself, but it still gets the job done.Mister Hatt wrote: On the side, maintaining AMVApp doesn't make you know what you're doing, it makes you slightly more knowledgeable than the people using it. Handbrake I brought up as just an overall converter to different formats, mostly people use it for converting to portable devices and the like. I don't think there is a drop in replacement for avisynth when it comes to footage prep for amvs or any other editing setup for that matter. Even my program has avisynth optionally integrated for some of the stuff mencoder can't do on its own. Avisynth was designed more suited for that purpose than a general purpose converter tool.

Re: A Helpful Converter
Actually Zarx's GUI is incredibly inneficient. It isn't a GUI for x264 at all, it's just GUI mappings for running avs2yuv, x264, and MP4Box from CLI.

But honestly, that's actually what we need. Just something that deals with it easily... it does just do stuff from bat in the end, but that's fine. Pretty much all the options that an amver could be interested in tweaking are there (ok well, someone would want to increase qcomp, but there's always the tab to add arguments to the bat manually if really need be

Saa, getting back on topic, I'm still not sure why this app uses mencoder when ffmpeg is a far better choice. Or is the thread about something else, I forgot already.
