What I want to do is make a mask that looks like wind, and use it to overlay more clips to speed up the pace of the second half.
thisis the best example I could find of what I'd like to do.
I'd imagine that trying to make the mask and animate it myself wouldn't look good.

Do you mean this stripes/strokes?
There is a plugin from trapcode that makes such things in an heavier way:
Or:
-Create an adjustment layer
-Draw the vector paths on the adjustment layer
-Go to Generate->Line
-Make the setting and choose the vecror path to generate
-Play a bit with the proberties you´ll definatly see what I´m out for. If you keytime particular ones (sry I have the german editin) you can let the line move on the vector path.
-Set the blending mode of the adjustment layer to "Soft Light" or stuff like "Add/Screen".
-Play witht the opacity of the adjustment layer to set up how "obvious" the line is displayed and play with effects and properties to get feathured edges for the generated line
Do you want that I create a little example project in AE for you? Some points of the list might vary. I didn´t tried it now.

those stripes/strokes could work, I'll try the second method first.
Those instructions should be enough for me to work with, thanks.
I'll hand out sendspace links when I switch back to XP. (I have other things that I need to do as well. Can't hand out links while I'm in linux because the link is in my XP aim logs)
+edit: links pm-ed
+edit2: I used an old cut I made of the mix which was a few seconds longer (plus some blank audio that I didn't want in there). My segment is only :30

00:01 I´m the opinion that we rotoscope out the birds and use them as transition to your part. (Ben´s or my job to do)
00:03 I think you overdo it here with the colour correction.
00:04-00:10 Mhmm well you should get away from this colour stuff. Try to correct or change it to something brighter/happier.
00:11 Mhm. A bit too grey
00:12 Pretty unsharp and too grey for sure
Here and there some changes to brighter colours etc.
I think the rest is fine. Good job. It makes a good base for a part. Just a few changes and it´s good.

Beta was pretty good. I definitely think Last Exile fits better than Ah! My Goddess. I actually find myself not having too many specific things to complain about, but I really feel like there could and should be more going on. One thing I will say is that in my opinion, there really needs to be something synched to the drum roll at the end of your segment. Preferrably something pretty and colorful.
But yeah, definitely an improvement.

I hate drum rolls. I´m so sick of it. Always the same old bullshit: flashes! Honestly: What else do you want to do with drum rolls? Most of the timed it needs to be synced somehow. I´m happy that I can avoid those flashes with thousands of piano keys, but most of the time... yeah: You need the flashes. Quite anoying. =|
WC, if you make a good alternative I grant you a wish with my awesome strawberry-candy-whip. btw... You´re not sure if the drum rolls are in your part? Mhm... Start to edit you fag!!!
